| when you go to the dr they should ask you questions to try and find a cause for insomnia. so they will ask you about depression, mania, anxiety, caffine intake, drug use, any change in lifestyle and recent events. i doubt they will give you benzodiazepines or other hypnotics on your first visit, as they are quite addictive and can have serious side effects, and they only generally like to prescribe them for a few days at a time.
certain foods are meant to be able to help you sleep, lettuce is meant to help, i can't think of any more right now. i find that winding down before i go to bed helps, so not watching tv for an hour or so before going to bed, and reading a book before i go to sleep helps. also ear plugs help me alot, i live in a student house and everytime someone gets up in the night, or comes in late, i wake up because the walls are so thin. |
