Swollen glands

I'm firing this one out to kittyradio, since you're obviously all doctors.

Jokes aside, my neck is giving me bother right now. Yesterday I had one lump on one side of my neck, fairly firm but sore to the touch. Today I have two more on the same side of my neck and one on the lower-back of my head, same side. It hurts when I lift my shoulder on that side, or when I lean my head over to the other side.

I gather it's probably my glands. I don't have any other symptoms (I've had swollen glands in the front of my neck while suffering from tonsilitis but these bumps are further back) and I'm not aware of any infections I might have. And I'm not feeling lousy, like I might if I had a virus of some sort. It's only been going on for these past two days, so I feel I can comfortably rule out cancer.

Is it possible or even common for people to just randomly suffer from swollen glands? Like, if the glands build up with fluid and eventually drain away within a couple of weeks? It's totally bizarre. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I'm reluctant to see my doctor while I have no other symptoms and I honestly feel fine apart from the dull ache in my neck.

I had that- my neck was a bit sore with very swollen glands for a few days and then I burst out in humungo tonsilitis. But don't panic. Glands swelling is just a sign your body is doing its job and dealing with infections. If its doing a good job, you'll never have the symptoms. If you've got your ears pierced though, check the holes because infections, even minor ones can make your neck glands puff right up.

That happens to me all the time, usually when I'm getting a cold or flu. It always goes away by itself after a while.

ah that happened to me (sorry, just bringing back bad memories cause my doctors were fools). anyway, not to intentionally worry you, but they told me it was nothing, and then they thought it was cancer, two surgeries later and a week in the hospital and they had no clue what it was and they were completely baffled (i seriously don't mean to worry you cause i was that one case that apparently almost never happens!) they said swollen glands happen to almost everyone-- just a sign of a cold or the flu, or something common like that. also, if you have braces, it could be from bacteria from that. they should go back to normal soon enough but if they're still swollen in a week or so, i'd say go to your doctor to be sure.

its almost always a sign that your body is trying to fight someone off. i dont think its ever normal to just get swollen glands. your body may fight it off and you may not get sick, otherwise you'll know soon i guess!
