have you ever known someone who's had an amputation?

especially in your famliy?

this is kind of a hard thread for me to make, but i recently got some news that they may have to take my mothers foot. she was in a car accident last year and she messed up her foot so badly. shes had numerous amounts of surgeries but they just told her that her foot was unsalvagable, and they may need to take it.

this is really scary...im going to see her this thursday and im staying till tuesday. she is going to get a second opinion, but her doctor said that they would tell her the same thing. im very scared for her but in a sense i feel it will give her her life back, shes been in and out of wheelchairs and crutches since july 2005.

when and if she needs the operation i may have to take a leave of absence from work to stay with her.

any advice from someone who has experienced this would be helpful.

I'm sorry about your mom My uncle had diabetes, and he had to have both his legs amputated. It was so hard to watch him, one day he was so full of life, the next he was totally confined to a wheelchair.

Good luck and let us know how everything goes. xx

Our nextdoor neighbour lost his hand in a car accident. He has an artificial hand now and gets on great with it. I think in many cases, its better to lose the limb then struggle on with a damaged one. Particularly with a foot/leg, getting a prothestic limb means people can walk again.
