Unhappy anti-anti-depressants

i've been on....
prozac
celexa
cymbalta
zoloft
paxil
and now on wellbutrin which fucks up my memory and makes my ears ring

i've felt even more depressed or extremely irritable after a year of taking each. thus, the doc increases and decreases the dose and then i'm switched to different brands. i'm tired of this cycle. so, i'm contemplating going cold turkey and seeing what happens.

on a side note...
i'm pissed off cuz i was 10 minutes late to see my psychiatrist today cuz a road was closed. i called to tell them where i was and they said i had to reschedule for a new apt which would be in 3 weeks. when i saw her last month, i had to wait at least 30 minutes to see her even though i was early. why is it ok for doctors to make us wait and its not ok for them to wait on us?

Going cold turkey on medications is not a good idea. Even if you don't need the medication, your body is used to it. It's much safer to taper off. I don't want to discourage you from going off antidepressants if you feel they aren't helping, but, please, do it carefully. Would your doctor be supportive and helpful if you told her you wanted to get off the meds?

I agree, cold turkey = bad.
Unless you want to deal with some pretty extreme headaches/dizziness/nausea, i suggest weaning yourself off.

I agree, cold turkey is a bad idea............talk to your doc about how you feel....it sucks, but sometimes you have to go through a few med changes before you find the right one (IF there IS a right one ). Be patient and discuss all this with your doc.........yeah, it's a bummer that we have to wait so long sometimes, but alot of the psyche docs are overworked and underpaid, and trying to help us the best they can.........we have to be proactive in our recovery, also........yes, there is such a thing as mental health recovery...........consult with the doc and see about some classes to help you deal with things......it will be well worth it
