most masks make your face actually break out because they are bringing out the impurties. you really shouldnt do them too often either because they can dry out your face too

vitamins are always good, for your entire body not just your skin! vitamin e is supposed to be the best for your skin

vitamin a can be helpful as well but be extremely careful - do not exceed the dose listed on the bottle
and zinc is good for your skin as well

I used the olay vitamins that come in the packs with 4 vitamins. I think they were "total effects" or something. Nothing amazing happened but they did have a lot of things in them that are supposed to be good for you anyways.

Proactiv is pretty harsh. If your skin looks great you don't need to use it. Plus, a lot of people say it makes them break out worse. My recommendation for dealing with proactiv is not to use the cleanser on a twice-daily basis, because it's basically a scrub. Get a nice, gentle foaming cleanser (like the olay foaming sensitive skin cleanser, i love that one) to use as your cleanser and use the proactiv one every other day or so as an exfoliant.

But, if you have great skin, which I'm not sure you will because packaging lies, you should keep it as simple as possible. Use a gentle cleanser, a gentle alcohol-free toner, and a moisturizer/sunscreen. If you want to even out your skin, use an alpha hydroxy acid moisturizer at night.

The package ALWAYS lies!

Drink 2 liters of water per day, eat enough fruit and vegetables and you should have great skin. Visit a dermatologist if it's not diet or stress-related - they'll give you much better advice than any drugstore shelf.

Well I don't know about all the clean & clear stuff, but i've used masks a few times lately and the next day my skin's like, GLOWING. All the imperfections gone/practically gone and my skin looks all soft and healthy and stuff. So yeah, that's all I know, but generally for me, masks = good.

It depends which masks you use - ones with loads of vitamins and light hydrating stuff make my skin glow, ones with clay or kaolin (white clay, I think), mud etc tend to make me break out the next day, but give me clearer skin in the long term.

The best quick face mask is plain yoghurt - you can mix in things like oatmeal for exfoliation and soft skin, vitamin e oil, almond oil, etc. I tend to use it plain, but if I get sunburnt I tend to add a touch of almond oil to soothe my skin.

Or just ask your doctor. I'm not sure what the specific skin problems are but prescription products can work wonders and if you have insurance, wind up not being that much more expensive than proactiv. My doctor gave me a box full of duac (bp/clindamyacin gel) samples for free and a differin prescription -- the duac is amazing for acne and the differin helps even out my skin, especially post acne marks.

I've struggled with my skin for as long as i can remember. I've found the simplest and best thing is to make sure my face is clean. For the past four or five months i've been using Johnsons Morning Burst products and have found them really good.

Proactiv made my skin really greasy, way more than it is normally. plus, i broke out like crazy so i stopped using it.

i made an appointment at the dermatologist today and can't wait to go. since, my acne is more related to symptoms of pms, i really don't think creams and scrubs are what i really need.

i've decided drugstore products are a waste of time.

acne is a medical condition, that requires medical treatment if you want it corrected. you can't cure ulcers with a tums, or strep throat with a thousand cough drops, you need a perscription.

i went on the the pill and got on minocycline and my skin finally looks normal. it's such a relief.

I wanna know something about proactive:
I dont have severe acne, I barely got some at all, but lately I've been breaking out and my skin is uneven. is it going to help?! like my skin tone is fucked up, and my whole face looks bad now.

that's what the whole pro-activ thing is about.. like sure you can go get an extra strength spot treatment and get rid of the bumps you have.. but they will come back.. pro-active is a combination therapy system, which is four things.

cleanser
toner
repairling lotion
refining mask

all of these work together to bring you perfect skin in every way possible, and not only does it clear up exisiting blemishes but its to where you wont get anymore again

Proactiv abruptly stopped working on me after about a year, and from anecdotal stuff I've seen, that isn't uncommon.

that sucks what do you use now?

what ive been doing is the clean & clear advantage acne clearing 2-part system and its been working great, and today im going to buy the acne spot treatment thats in all these magazines and just use it on all my pimples so in a few days theyll just be gone and i can use the 2-part system way faster and then use all of that with masks and stuff and then when the pro-activ wont have much to do but im excited about like the toner evening skin tone and stuff or whatever
