Sillllver hair

I have always wanted to dye part of my hair silver/grey and am thinking that the near future is a good time for it.

From my understanding I will need to use toner rather than an actual dye, is this so? What brands of toner are pretty good but on the cheaper side? How long do they typically last? I'm not sure if any of you have silver experience but I know that some (Petals at least) has toned their hair to white.

The hair I will be dying is already pretty white so I don't need to hear screeching about bleaching. That part is good to go.
