| aww, sorry it doesn't work on your hair you guys. that sucks.
I never did the lemon juice thing. It's so old school though, I love it, but I hear it really dries out your hair and can make it orange!
I think the reason the honey works for me is because my hair takes color very easily. it's quite dry naturally and therefore probably porous, so that makes changing the color easier. and it also changes color easily in the sun.
any way, this is how honey lightening goes:
you need:
- distilled water (I actually used tap water this time and it still worked, but you best use the distilled water because tap water has minerals and stuff that interferes with the peroxide production from the honey)
- honey: the best is jarrah honey but only available in australia. you best use manuka or a honeydew honey. these are dark honeys. I used honeydew 100%raw honey.
- you can also add coconut oil, or cinnamon or cardamom as a "peroxide booster". I didn't do this yet though.
You mix the honey with the water. You need to calculate by weight and you need 4times more water. When you have 10grams of honey, you need 40 grams of water etc... I did 20 grams of honey and 80 grams of water (I have hair almost to my bra strap).
then you let the mixture stand for like an hour to produce peroxide. Then you wet your hair very well. The hair needs to be very wet for this treatment. Then you put the honeymix on there. I used a spray bottle and just dunked my ends in the bowl with leftover mix. You're better of using one of those dye applicator bottles though, or a tint brush like they use at the hairdresser. I don't have any of that, but I think next time i'll put the mix in a medium sized bowl and just put my head in there. then all my hair will be covered.
THEN you wring your hair out a little because it'll be a bit too wet, but it still needs to be dripping wet. so then you put up your hair with a clip or something and wrap saran wrap on your head. it looks retarded, but it helps keep your hair wet during the treatment, which is very important. don't use a towel on your head! just put a a shower cap over it. you will look like a douche and honeywater will be dripping all over the place (use a towel on your shoulders).
leave it on for an hour. Shampoo and condition as usual. And that's it.
