thinning out hair

or something.

I'm in desperate need of a hair cut, and someone told me that since i have thick hair i should get it thinned out to make it easier to manage. i dont really know what she means though. i am terrified of ending up with some kind of scene mullet.
what is likely to happen when i ask the hairdresser to thin out my hair then? will she put in lots of layers or?

speak to your hairdresser about it. ask her what she would do if someone asked her to "thin out" their hair.

i have really thick hair and layers make it much easier to manage and it doesn't look as heavy.

^Yes.

I was always under the impression that by "thinning" out the hair they were cutting in layers.

It doesn't have to be a scene mullet but that is sort of an extreme example of the general idea.

Sorry for posting pics of myself but it's kind of the difference between this:

(ignore the colour... what i mean is it's just a straight-across cut)

and this:

which is how it goes when i get layers, with prolly a good 7-8 inches between the longest and shortest layers.

and in both cases my hair was probably blow-dried straight.

It does make it massively easier to deal with, basically b/c there's less hair to style and less bulk hanging off your skull.

Anyway, hope that helps?

Get it done
its really simple and works wonders
your hairdresser will know what you mean by it and works good on "heavy hair"
Only danger if its super kinky and thinning can make it worse if you don't use product or straightners.

Yesyesyes bear this in mind.

My hair has a slight natural wave and needs styling to go straight.

Kinky is good tho if you try to do stuff with it. I would sometimes bang mousse on my hair just to turn the flicky mess into a more textured type thing, and that worked quite well.
