up-dos

I would normally avoid using that word for fear of sounding like my grandma, but it seems to sum up what I want to ask in this thread. The range of styles I do with my hair is incredibly limited and I was hoping that people on here could advise me on how to expand it, because I know my hair has potential to be interesting, it just very rarely realises it.

So, the subject of our discussion is wavy, very thick and heavy, for want of a better description mid-boob length, with layers and a thick fringe that finishes just above my eyebrows and curls under (the aim was Bettie Page but a bit less extreme). I cut shorter bits to go around my face so I look less like a boy when it's up. The way I style it is pretty dull - I either have it down; down with a few bits pulled back in a clip; up in a ponytail; up in a messy bun (a ponytail looped back on itself with strands pulled out everywhere). That's it. What else can I do? There must be loads of exciting things that I just could never think of. I saw a girl the other day with a plait around her head just above where my fringe would be, a bit Lord of the Rings perhaps but that was pretty cool. Not that I would know where to start with doing that..

So, suggestions please! I'm just bored of always doing the same thing with my hair. I'd like lots of pictures and step by step instructions.
