| | | It doesn't really look that complicated
liquid eyeliner
and maybe some black eye shadow?
It looks good on her, but frankly, it seems like quite a bit of makeup.. |

| | | Lots of a very thick eyeliner.
And then I think like one lighter and one darker blush and you put on the light one first and then put the dark in the middle. |

| | | just do a lighter version of it with a sensible amount of flicked-out liquid black eyeliner, nude lipstick and 60's bardot-ish hair. with a fringe. |

| | | speaking of the queen of both black eyeliner & black eyeshadow.
even though you're an annoying twit. since you know a good nose when you see one...
on your eyes, black eyeshadow should only go til the lid line unless you plan on blending. this doesn't look blended. there's this shit revlon makes that is for smokey eyes. idk if they even sell it anymore but it's pretty amazing. powder eyeliner. it's DARK which is hard to get with even a black black eyeshadow & it's workable.
always use liquid liner for the top unless you're in a jam. fan outward.
i use pencil for the bottom though, and then smudge in.
lots of mascara.

i made the longest post and it signed me out and deleted it.
Anyway.
I had this fringe I liked. I sort of fell into the look because my hair was damaged and just BECAME this sort of three part fringe with a side swept part in the front swooping over my eye and curling outward and two pieces down on the sides of my face curling in towards my face. i liked this a lot but the rest of my hair was all broken off in shorter layers too, from a bad dye job. I googled bardot hair and it is almost exactly what i want. It seems to mean longish straight hair with a longish fringe.
After my three part fringe and damaged hair debacle I finally cut it cut again and she did this like, short layers all over look that was supposed to be sort of tegan and saraish. And sort of was. But then I went back to a different person and they cut it in this stupid friendsy way where its like one short layer going across the back of my head and my fringe is like too short and then completely EVENLY cut all the way across my head, as if i had no fucking discernable side part when i came in. so its side parted but even on both sides and i have to pull down hair that shouldnt be a part of my fringe to make the edges of it longer so i look like less of a.....ramones member.
I found this picture of someone imitating bardot hair:
and it seems to me that 60s hair like this is really defined by the size of the fringe in relation to the rest of the hair. does that seem right? with certain layers in the front that define this look from something more modern? and the long rest of the hair would be slightly longer in the very back than the sides of the head?
i think i could sort of grow out this stupid haircut into something like this. the hair in the back would have to be straight though. i dont do wavy. id also be hesitant to not be able to do a side part. i would like to be able change it up though. i think if it was done right, i could.
like:
Here it's in sort of a side part. Her layers are about the same as ever but she's able to curl them up a bit for a different look.
and those layers also allow this:
this fucking fabulous thing going on where she can blend the fringe layers into the length of the rest of her hair and still have the small section of fringe in the frony which is exactly the length i think the short part of my fringe should be. so i need to find a hair stylist who actually knows what they are doing and what a sixties style bardotesque haircut IS and how to do all the layer in the front.
this
even looks a bit like what i had before in the front which they didnt know how to do where i went last time. considering that was a stupid girl in her twenties who was talking about chi straighteners with skulls on them, im thinking i need to call some super expensive places when my hair grows out a bit and ask them if anyone there would even know what im talking about. i mean, there has to be a semi-cultured gay man in gucci loafers somewhere in every city who could do this correctly , right?
while im waiting for the stupid short layer in my hair to grow out, i have to wear it up all the time. is it couth to flip out the end of my stupid ponytail to make it more retro so i can start trying this cat eye and vintage clothing style thing i want to do sooner? if so, i need to invest in a curling iron.
and thanks for the tip tigz about the powder eyeliner. i try to use powder eyeshadow on the lower lid and its never dark enough. i use gel liner already and do a cateye sometimes but its really the rest of the black makeup and doing a line up in the crease that freaks me out. i tried it once and i looked like a clown. maybe if i use something besides gel or liquid for the crease? im just not skilled with black shadow at all.
i am aware that i am the new painted rose. but srsly. if i can pull some semblence of this look off it might be the best part of my twenties.

| | | I think just a normal black eyeshdow to do the crease.
But instead of in the crease, sweeping just above it - starting off in a big block going right down in the middle and then sweeping out to the side.
Then blend it down a bit and just use a fuck load of eyeliner and mascara as per the usual using a load of eyeliner and mascara (obviously with the heavy bit on the outside of the lower line).
But I'd say using pencil/powder eyeliner would be better (than gel or liquid liner), with the charcoal/dark grey eyeshadow. Because to me that might just might be the difference between retro screen siren-ness and goffix. I'm well tempted to try it just to see what happens, I'm intrigued now.
I'm also having fringe issues, it looks a bit square because I cut it myself the other day (but to be honest it never looks that great when hairdressers do it so I don't see the point). |

| | | cat, i have to spread before i give you reps. anyway thanks for the tip about black eyeshadow above the crease and starting in the middle. i agree about the goffix/retro distinction. i need to find out where i can get powder eyeliner now. and i need good eye makeup brushes. MAC is complete shit as far as advice about brushes or anything, i think they ignore me because i dont look like a fucking transexual.

| | | this look: (in my best opinion)
some false eyelashes, thick mascara, a good eyelash curler, some gray(not way too dark) eyeshadow all over the eyelid, then but a darker, perhaps shimmery black or darker gray just above the lashes and a bit on the outer corner of the eye. a thick liner on the eyelid, above lases, make it blend with the shadow and then a thick bit of it on the lower side of course.
i kind of suck at make up though. try those youtube videos? | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
