| | | Hair cleansing epiphany I never knew this until today. My hairdresser recommended prior to wet washing my hair, take a 50p sized blob (slightly larger than a quarter) of the shampoo and work it thoroughly through hair when it's DRY. Use the tips of your fingers to work it through your scalp for about a minute. Why? Apparently this acts as a "pre-shampoo" treatment. It sounds weird but when you do it you can physically FEEL the dirt dislodging itself from the scalp. You then add the water, rinse and repeat. The advantage to this method is that when dry, you don't tend to yank on the hair so much as you feel the grit loosening itself.
It sounds weird but since doing it my hair has been in impeccable condition!

i don't wanna repeat.
all that washy washy dries yr hair out.
but since it just so happens that i'm about to shower. i'm going to do it for the sake of science.

| | | If you have soft water, I think you could get away with just the one wash.
Trust me, when you feel that grit making tracks, it's a hell of a lot more gratifying than using half a bottle of shampoo and spending ages rinsing again and again.

| | | I never wash my hair. It's because when I do I get acne and greasy hair - I discovered as a teenager its actually better not to wash your hair. This sounds dirty, but actually my hairs natural oils condition my hair far better than any soap product would do.

| | | ^ I never understood that. I mean, it's a part of the anatomy, why would people not wash it? While humans DO slough dead skin cells, that doesn't mean the body, or the hair, sloughs enough cells to actually clean itself.

| | | Well when I used shampoo I used to get mad dandruff and acne until one day I just stopped because I was going thru a grunge period and a few months in I realised how fucking amazing condition my hair was actually in. So, like, never changed since...

| | I suppose it's good for the hair to skip shampoo, I've heard that before. There are lots of wannabe-hippies who wash their hair with baking soda and stuff like that. Or you could by sulphate- and silicone free shampoo at health food shops etc. Sulphates (a type of detergent, it's what makes the shampoo lather up) and silicone oils (to make your hair feel soft) are the ingredients that people tend to have bad reactions to. Silicones can build up in your hair, sulphates can be too harsh (although for most people, both these ingredients work just fine).
The huge disadvantage to not using shampoo, in my eyes, is that you'll get that old-man scalp stench
and that is the worst kind of body odor except for bad breath. |

| | | The best thing I've try'd other than fabric conditioner is Almond oil.. Though it's messy and you have to leave it on over night it does make your hair feel amazing. But I no longer have long hair so I don't bother with high maintanance
