| | | i shall try. however being anal retentive i just want to add that its not an epiphany when someone tells you.
i think there is something in that whole not washing hair thing. i notice that if i wash my hair everyday, then it gets so dirty that i have to keep washing it. but if i space it out as in only washing my hair every 2-3 days, my hair gets dirty every 2-3 days. i havent been game enough to not wash my hair at all though.
i did however experiment on my dog. the more i washed her the dirtier she got. so i didnt wash her at all. just brushed out the dead hair and she had the most amazing coat anyway. so i only washed her when she dove herself in mud or something. and that worked out. |

It just depends on the mineral content of the soil. In many towns the industry is caused by the hard water, not the other way around. My home town has a strong brewing industry that arose because of the hard water in the area.
I don't know about washing your hair twice. Seems a bit pointless to me - waste of time, waste of shampoo, messes up your scalp. It's better to try and wash your hair only every three days or so, if you can get away with it. A boy I used to go out with only ever rinsed his hair and it was always really nice. |

| | | Yeah I thought we had hard water here cos it comes through all the rocks in the dales and picks up minerals. Thats why it tastes better too. |

| | | here's a hair epihany
DONT WASH YOUR HAIR WITH SHAMPOO
its full of chemicals which will dry your hair. they put ALS and SLS etc which mechanics use to clean their fucking workshops with! its also put in toothpaste to make that foam.
the foaming is bullshit its just pavlovian response from those product manufacturers to make you think you need lots of good foam to get your hair clean.
stop washing your hair and give it a long time to rebalance. just use water to wash it, maybe some diluted lemon juice. after a while it will rebalance itself and be much better for you
if you must use a shampoo get one that is SLS and ALS free.
"A lot of chemicals used in cosmetic formulations are synthesised by ethoxylation: the bulk of anionic and nonionic cleansers and certain thickeners, for instance. Ethylene Oxide is a hazardous and very toxic reactant, which is classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as category 2A, probably carcinogenic for humans. The eventual presence of free ethylene oxide in PEG derivatives or ethoxylates is a concern for food and pharmaceutical authorities worldwide.The problem of 1,4-dioxane affects the same type of chemical substances. In fact, dioxane is a derivative of ethylene oxide and is often present in ethoxylates. Dioxane is considered to give possible risks of irreversible toxicological damage. "
- Extracted from academic cosmetic chemist, Denis Rebut, and is taken from Cosmetics and Toiletries Journal, Vol 104, April 1994.
The following is a list of some of the most commonly used ethoxylated ingredients:
* Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES)
* Ammonium laureth sulfate
* Triethanolamine laureth sulfate
* All ingredients with "eth" in the name eg Ceteth 20
* All ingredients with "PEG" in the name
* All the Polysorbates
It should also be noted that ethoxylated ingredients are inherently unstable (due to the presence of an ether linkage). They have been shown in a Sicilian study to break down when applied to the skin in a cosmetic cream to form skin-damaging free radicals. |

| | | i wash my hair, as well as my daughter's, once a week w/ shampoo
mild shampoo at that
the day we shampoo we have unruly hair that wants some natural oils back
we do the water wash and condition on the other days
a day, maybe 2, keepin' it stinky
keeping it simple is good for our hair type

| | | Is it any better to use baby shampoo (like Johnson and Johnson) than regular shampoo?
I'm going to try this no 'poo thing because I have short hair and nothing to lose. |

I'm going to try this no 'poo thing because I have short hair and nothing to lose. | A lot of adults use that for dandruff or sensitive skin, including my dad. If I go home and don't have a Lush shampoo bar I use my dad's J&J baby shampoo, and would say it's milder than the normal stuff. Which would make sense. I think I have to use more to lather up my hair, though - could be because the idea that lather is needed to clean hair is a myth, but even when taking that into account, I'm sure I had to put more on. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
