Blonde to brown

Well I have been blonde all my life, and I fancy a change. I can no longer take dark roots all the time as my hair permantly looks like it needs doing!

So I have decided to go for a bit of a chop with some layers and stuff, and a kind of fudgy toffee brown with lighter bits at the front.

However. I have been highlighting with bleach for many many years, and although my hair is in good condition, Im not sure how well colour would take. I dont want to end up orangey. I am also off to egpy in a few weeks and I heard that heat and sun can fade your hair if its coloured?

Advice appriciated...its sort of scary really but I need a change!

It's pretty inevitable that you'll get some fading after some washes, even without the sun/heat being involved. But I doubt it'd go orange on you unless it were a copper/red sort of brown you were going for. You'll just see more lighter colour coming through. and it wont stay as dark as you want it.

It might take a few cycles of dye and fade and dye and fade before you find that it's not fading anymore, as the base colour you're dyeing on will sort of be darker each time?

It might be something that's best to see a hairdresser about. Their dye job might not be any less likely to fade on your light hair, but at least they can get the right shade on it in the first instance that might allow for a bit of fading, while still looking good and that.

I was planning on getting my hairdresser to do it as I have never dyed hair before! I imagine its kind of messy :/

My friend has been dying hers for a long time and seems to re-do it quite regulaly. I am assuming its less damaging than bleach, but how often am I looking at having to re-do it so its still a nice colour?

I was hoping to get it done before I went away, and if it fades that bad I guess I can always try again when I get back.

I have been blonde, brown and red and switch back and forth.
I always go to the hairdresser and I find that aside from my highlights the dark colour does take very well.
