my stupid dark hair is too high maintenance

and I can't take it anymore. I've only had it for two months but apparently my hair grows out really fast nowadays which leaves me with the 'balding' impression that are my roots. and I havent touched it for a while now, and now my roots are really really blonde. and I do like dark hair on me, it kinda suits me better than blonde I suppose, but it not being my natural color makes me cringe, and I feel like I need to dye my hair way more than when i was blonde and wanted to get lighter. and let me tell you blonde roots on brown hair look WAY more stupid than brown roots on blonde hair...
Now okay, basically I like my natural color today, and wanna go back to it. it's a light ash from what it seems ( i didnt have my natural color in a while, id always highlight or dye dark then bleach over and basically it was highlights, lowlights, bleach, dying shit) what is there to do now?
should I just go to a hairdresser and ask them to do all over highlights of my natural color over this color, without dying it darker or anything? the roots are about two inches now...i need to do something asap.

ew no!

you know like http://www.keyline-brands.co.uk/brands/images/hint.jpg and them shaders&toners-things

they're like sachets shampoo with a smiiidge of dye in 'em

even though i dye my hair regularly enough that i really should/could use permanent, i get roots etc, my hairdresser says i should use semi-permanent anyway cos it's better for your hair

shiny!

and i trust her immensely
