What are you hints and tips on getting the best smokey eyes? for daytime or evening? liquid liner or pencil? what colour eye shadow? do you wear much of anything else - i.e. pale lips/skin etc?

I think eyeshadow and brush is the way to go. I slightly wet my eyeliner brush with distilled water and use it to line the top and bottom of my eyes. Then I use a light silver/gray colour all over my eyelid. I apply a dark smoky shadow in the crease and blend.
