| | | Hair lightening Has anyone ever used a shop bought pre lightner? I have dyed black hair but need something lighter for summer or my head will boil. I looked in Superdrug and Boots but keep getting scared at the last minute.
Is it just gona wreck my hair?
Will it even work?
Any one know? |

| | | dying your hair from black to blonde or a lighter colour will ruin your hair, i have done it, it takes ALOT of bleaching. alot of mine snapped off i've had near enough white hair for about a year now and its finally in good condition. if you were to go the hairdresses they probably wouldnt touch it until you had roots of a few inches, i decided to do mine myself. your best getting a hair dye called "smart" dye, from superdrug. i'd also reccomend loreal born blonde.- you wil need a good few boxes |

And how many times did you have to do it to get it to an okay colour...and how long did you leave between each bleaching session bleaching?
Sorry for all the questions but I was thinking of trying to do something to ligthen my hair from black-dye. |

i had been dying my hair black for about 2/3 years, it took about about 5 or 6 boxes before it was white blonde because it goes orange when u go from black to blonde. my hair was medium legnth a little bit past my shoulders. i only dye my hair now when i have roots, probably once or twice a month the most.
it made alot of my hair snap off and fall out, but as i said its been about a year now and its in fine condition. i would try and grow it out abit first maybe, or just do streaks gradually? if you have long hair i would expect to cut it a fair few inches after it as it will kill your hair |

I think I may try to get some brown highlights or something to make the transistion a little easier!
Thankyou for the advice |

| | I tried to do this a few months ago and it was a complete disaster (may I add this was like, my third attempt to go blonde) I bought pre lightner, 2 boxes of bleach and 2 blonde hairdyes. My hair went white at the roots and bright orange everywhere else. Had to dye it brown x3 to get it out (Im suprised I have any hair left lol ) I went to the hairdressers and got blonde highlights which came out gorgeous and I just got more every 4 weeks until my hair was practically pure blonde
It may be expensive but whilst your at the hair dressers get them to give you a deep heat conditioning treatment & your hair will be sexy |

| | | yeah i regret dying mine black really but lately iv been wanting to go back to it im bored of th eblonde before i got it this white id usually have a new hair color every week. i dont think yours worked because you didnt use enough peroxcide. the regular blonde dyes won't work, u need som, ething like wella highlighting kit, smart hair dye, born blonde highlighter or jerome russell etc. |

I should have done more? |

| | yeah it was it depends howl ong you were leaving the dye on for aswell, from my experience, to go from black or dark hair to blonde you'd need about 4 maybe 5 boxes of pre lightener with a strong peroxcide and leave it on for about 30 minutes each time. i wouldnt do this more than twice a week though as it really will kill your hair. it's a hard transaction going from that dark to blonde, and its normal for it to go orange after abotu 15/20 minutes from putting it on, dont panic or rinse it off, leave it, it will eventually go yellow/white. you could even use a white or blonde toner to get a better look once its blonde. hope this works for you. |

I think I saw one of your pictures on a thread here and your hair is perfect! I'm sure it would look nice black to but think of all the trauma you put your hair through to get it out!
I really wish I had never dyed my hair black :s |

I was thinking of trying to lighten mine by doing the highlights thing. Do you think it would work by doing brown first and then movieng onto blondes? |

| | | old thread... but i need a bit of advice....
My hair is like a mousy brown colour, and ive been highlightenin my hair with jerome russel b blonde highlighting kit for about 2 years now, i decided then to try the bleach as an all over colour to get rid of my roots, and not, my scalp is now white, and the roots of my hair are darker than the rest, and cuz my hairs so light at the bottom, i feel it looks a tad orange... any advice?
My friends think itll loose the brass within a week, with washing etc it does tone it down, but im not sure whether to leave it to see of fix it now,
Help please :'( xxx |

Help please :'( xxx | You need to tone down the orange with a toner!! it won't just happen with washing it like your friend suggests.
As you hair is different shades all over, I wouldn't even suggest using a purple shampoo on it, as the white will turn purple, the yellow will turn grey and the orange will probably be the only part it works on.
You need to go to a salon.
but...if you are honestly so poor you cannot afford to, get a strong peroxide [40vol - lifts 7 shades] and get a friend to paint the peroxide carefully on to just the orange parts. Keep an eye on it and leave it till it is the same colour as the rest of your hair, DO NOT LEAVE IT ON LONGER THAN IT STATES IN THE MANUFACTOURS INSTRUCTIONS!!
Only once you've got an all over shade would I suggest investing in a good purple shampoo and using it every time you wash your hair.
This will get rid off all the orange/yellow tones.
[after you've bleached your hair, make sure you wash it with a ph 5.5 shampoo and if possible leave the condition on for a good 10mins] |

Giving cheep, "done at home" looking results. |
