| | | Are petrolatum based hair products bad? My sister brought these hair products from Kenia. They're for ethnic hair but I figure I can use it as a treatment for my dry hair and then wash it out with a good shampoo...
I have 3 kinds:
- Dax Hair food. Ingredients: Petrolatum, Mineral oil, Lanolin, Parrafin wax, and oils (coconut, almond, olive)
- Alison's Coconut & Olive oil conditioning hair food: Petrolatum, Mineral oil, Lanolin, and oils (coconut, almond, olive)
- Nice & Lovely Hair food wityh Petrolatum, mineral oil, aloe vera, jojoba oil, vegetable oils, sunscreen, vitamins A & E.
Is the petrolatum and mineral oil bad for hair? it doesn't really sound good but I'm tempted to try because on the jars it says it promotes hair growth and makes hair healthy and strong....
any experiences? |

| | ugh. never mind. I tried one of them. I put it on my hair for like half an hour and then went to wash it out and it feels like my hair is covered in wax!!!
I washed it 4 times (twice with Neutrogena T-gel which is a really strong shampoo!) and my hair still feels gross and sticky and i usually never get tangles but now I could hardly comb it.
New question: how do I get rid of all the shit in my hair? |

dax makes a clarifying shampoo especially designed for people who have been using their (petroleum based) hair products. in norway theyre sold in a drugstore chain called vita.
otherwise youre going to have to use dishwashing liquid... or just wait it out. |

| | I would use a Tea Tree oil shampoo maybe. Also, Aveda used to make a "detoxify" shampoo, it smelled pretty strong but deep, deep cleanses hair. I like that one the best. A pal used Nice and Lovely stuff, but her hair was EXTREMELY processed and she needed it it style her hair, it's best for very very processed/relaxed dry hair. If I used it my hair would probably be chunky and limp. |

| | | YES! Thank you. that was very helpful! Jesus. The oils aren't bad! It's the petrolatum that's the problem!
Any way. I got it out! If this ever happens to you. Here's what I did:
- put corn starch on your (dry) hair
- wash it out with warm water
- rinse with vinegar
- put on an egg
- shampoo (preferably with something that smells good!)
- condition twice | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
