| | | Does straightening wavy/curly hair make the waves or curls dissapear? I have wavy/curly hair but I've been straightening it quite often because I like straight smooth hair. I use a protective product and don't do it every day.
I do kinda feel like my hair looks ugly when I airdry it ow, whereas before I started straightening it (this much) it looked nicer. Now it's like not straight, but not nicely wavy either when it's airdried.
Can straightening your hair make you lose your waves and/or curls? Should I stop doing it?
I'm growing out my hair (my goal is at least bra strap, it's now a little past my shoulders) and I'm taking good care of it and take vitamins and stuff. I don't dye my hair any more, but it's still got a tiny bit of dye in. But not a lot. |

| | | No, I really don't think blowdrying your hair straight permanently changes it. I have naturally very curly hair, and I've been straightening it for like 10 years now. When I let it air dry, it still dries curly. |

| | | well my boyfriend has curly hair naturally and he's been straightening his for the past say... 3 months. it does seem to be a lot straighter naturally, but i can't really imagine that straightening permanently makes you lose the natural shape of your hair.
i'm trying to grow my hair longer as well, i wish i had naturally wavy hair. i have just straight hair that flicks. =[ |

| | | It doesn't permanently change it in my experience, but it could be damaging it, and that could be why it doesn't look as good. It could also be your hair growing out -- especially if you had short or layered hair, as it grows longer it'll be more weighed down and fall straighter. |

| | | i think the opposite happens to me. if i take time to blow dry it straight (which i rarely do anymore) the next time i wash it it curls up better for me. it like to have a break, i think.
something that i used to do more often when i was rushed was to wrap it up into a bun while it was still damp. and then when it's completely dry i take it down and if it comes out right it looks really healthy and shinny and like i blowed it straight and used hot rollers.

| | | it doesn't change anything. your hair might just be damaged from the straightening. |

It will probably damage your hair and make it frizzy/harder to manage when you do decide to leave it curly again.

It only looks decent when I wait for it to dry at night and then sleep on it but my hair is thick and I have a lot o it so it takes hoooooours to dry! Last time I went to bed with wet hair and in the monring (9 hours later) it still wasn't dry!
Any tips???!!! Good curly/wavy hair products recommendations? cos i wanna grow it out healthy... |

| | | when was the last time you had a trim?
just cutting off split ends can make a big difference, though it won't make your hair dry any faster. |

| | | my hair sounds very similar to yours. i've noticed that mine doesn't straighten as well as it used to, i guess cos it's damaged, it's still as curly and frizzy and thick as ever. |

| | | I dried it with a diffuser now and it's pretty nicely curly/wavy. I'm gonna sleep on it now so it'll probably be just slightly wavy, but if it looks decent I can lie with it. I just wanna grow long healthy hair and not constantly have to straighten my hair (cos it's so thick and annoying to straighten! it takes ages!) |

| | Do you wash your hair every day?
Even if you're using a specialty shampoo for curls, it can still dry your hair out and cause it to frizz. My close friend has curls and washes it only about once a week, but she brushes hers ( ), when you should really use a wide-toothed comb.

| | | I used to only wash my hair twice a day back when I had really dry hair but now I codition it well so it tends to get greasy after 2 days. so usually every other day, but if I exercise I have to wash my hair afterwards... and sometimes I just feel my hair is greasy after one day, so I sometimes wash it every day.
I only use a wide toothed comb. no brush |

| | | My hair is naturally pretty curly/wavy, & I used to hate it so much so straightened it for a couple of years. My hair now dries (naturally) almost dead straight, which is a shame, considering I've only just started to like my hair curly. haha. |

| | | NO.... I have tried the oils and shampoos and everything to get my hair straight just by using those. It never even made a spark of diffrence. So I iron my hair with a clothes iron. I have been doing that since 1997, and my curls still are as curely as ever when I wash my hair.
