What do you do when the girl you really want to date, decides she'll go out with your other friend?

so you're not actually going out with her? does she know you want to go out with her?
there's not a whole lot you can do really. she seems to have made her choice.
my best friend in high school did this to a guy she was dating. dumped him for a girl in the grade above us. he was utterly disgusted.

i don't know anyone this has happened to exactly but my friend's first boyfriend left her for another man! she was heartbroken.
