ok, i have a problem. a stupid one: i like a guy.
at first he seems pretty into me: big smiles, comes to talk to me, invites me for a coffee, remembers everything i told him, etc.
then, when i decide that it's time for me to make a move and invite him to have lunch with me (nothing fancy, just a slice of pizza between classes), he accepts, but he acts like he doesn't care. he seems not to listen to what i say, talks about his friends, i mean, he seems just cold.
unfortunately, i really really like him and i don't know if i'll ever see him again, since we won't be attending the same class anymore. he knows that and i expected that he would have at least asked me my phone number. but he didn't.
ok, now, writing it, the thing seems obvious: he doesn't like me. ok, fine. but what i don't get is: why acting like you care at first, if you don't?

Maybe he's just playing hard to get? Like some women do.

He's probably either trying to avoid seeming overkeen, or he's not that into you. That or you're expecting a man to act like a woman socially, which will pretty much never happen unless you turn into a gay guy.

I know there's bound to be some exceptions, but by and large, heterosexual men tend not to do this.

hetero men definitely play hard to get, they just call it being cool or aloof or moody.
