Basically, there's a lot of people worrying about whether they'll be regarded as a slut or a prude, and that's why we have stupid rules like the three-day rule and the third-date rule and so on. And you shouldn't have to give a shit what others think. But that, oddly, includes your date. If they want sex when you don't know if you do or not, you get to decide what happens.

The suck thing is that there's no rule, and I suspect people like the rules because it removes the need to judge for themselves whether it's a good idea to sleep with someone.

I say this as someone who has pretty much always put out on first dates, out of desperation, because I thought - and I now realise how stupid this is - that if I held out, they'd lose interest. Trust me, the most important thing if you're after more than just sex is to retain your dignity. If that means holding out for another date, I'd say do it.

On one hand it's a shame to "spoil" it by having sex on the first date, then again it would be a drag to go on 15 dates with someone and then find out they're crap in bed, have a small penix and cry out "mommyyy!!" when they come.
