party-attending etiquette

would you ever go to a party where you didn't know the host or anyone else, except for one acquaintance?

a friend of a good friend of mine is a dj. we talk about music everytime we meet, but we are not close--just acquaintances. (i would like to get to know him better though, because he is a really interesting person.) this guy invited me to a party to which he is dj'ing at on halloween, except the problem is that i don't know anyone else on the guest list at all.

that leaves me with two options, and i want you to decide for me what i should do:
1. i can stay in on halloween, or make some other plans with people i actually know.
2. i can go and muster up the courage to attend anyways and introduce myself to everybody around me. maybe i should bring a friend along so that i have someone else to talk to, and i will also have a good exit strategy just in case if i feel too awkward. i should also probably get an awesome costume too, so that people would be thinking 'hey! who's that? that is amazing..' (you get the idea). would it be weird if i did this??

i am kind of a shy person, so that is why i am asking for help from you guys. what would you do?

2nd option. for sure. especially if you want to get to know him better, he might invite you to hang out more often if he sees you get along ok with his people.
but yeah, def. bring a friend. i'm sure that'd be ok?
