I am being blackmailed by my husband whom I married in good faith. He helped me to get my green card here in the United States but is now acting like an asshole, never taking into account my needs and wishes. On top of everything, this week we are supposed to fly to Europe to see my family. I haven't seen them for 4 years and a half, and it is the first time when my husband will meet them. I am very sad, although it is supposed to be a happy reunion. However, my family never approved 100% of my marrage with a black man, and since my country is almost 100% white, they still have the old mentality and they'd rather prefer that I do not bring him. It is a difficult situation, and I am afraid that if I tell him not to come, he may call immigration on me, although I now have my green card (we have to stay married for at least 2 years, otherwise they could take in away from me..I know I should not worry since I married him in good faith, but I am very confussed). I only have 2 days until I go home and I do not know what to do not to get anyone upset. If anyone cares to leave a comment/advice, I would appreciate it. I feel this is too much to deal for one person, and if it were not for my school I would stay back home in Eastern Europe where I am from.

tell him if he claims it was a fraudulent marriage then he's in as much trouble as you. more infact, you just get deported, he goes to jail.

i've no idea if this is true, but he sounds dumb enough to swallow it. when you've done that divorce him

That is true. However, it was not a fraudulent marriage. I am afraid that if I leave..I really do not know. I'm afraid they will not let me back in the country. We need to stay married for 2 years or else I may have my green card revoked. The 2 years are not necessary if I can prove physical or verbal abuse (both happen, but I did not report it to the police. A couple of times someone called the police because I was crying and responded back to him, but I did not have the guts to tell them what happened). I want to be able to defend myself if he does something while I'm gone.

are there any women's legal advice centres or immigration legal advice centres in your town that won't cost?
