i think that he'd probably think it was weird for the first five minutes then get over it. and decide that he actually liked that you added him because he is intrested! or decided that he didnt like that you added him but added you back anyway

ive had this done to me a couple times on myspace. they msgd but didnt outright try and add me right away.
i didnt mind.

I dislike it when people I don't know/only met once or twice add me, I feel like they're just trying to make themselves look more popular, but I guess if you sent a message it'd show you weren't doing that and that you actually do intend to keep in touch
