| | Internet meet-up that went wrong and regrets Last week I spent it following NIN. On Monday I met up with four people from the internet and unfortunately I didnt click with these two women. I couldnt hold a conversation with them. Im shy and quiet so I think I find these sort of things to be more nerve racking then others will. But these two women were a personality clash with me. I felt like they didnt like me because I was about 5-10 years younger and it just didnt go well. They jumped in on my conversations, werent bothered by me speaking and I basically only had NIN in common with them. I only had to deal with them for 24 hours because as soon as I got to the first venue for NIN I met these americans who were lovely and then my friend came and joined us later. The next show I just hanged out with my friend.
Now this isnt a big deal is it? you meet people and you get along with them or you dont. This happens on the net and inperson interactions. When I got home I went onto the net and spoke out how I found these two to be cold but I didnt put their names in. However they worked it out and they viewed me saying they were cold as a personal attack and also that I was taking the piss out of one of theirs laugh - one of them had a donkey type laugh , seriously it was bad but I didnt write anything about it. They responded by saying they didnt have anything negative or positive to write about me and Im confused by what that could be.
I only regret speaking out for one reason and I know I sound a cunt for being like this. I only regret it because if I go see NIN in the future I worry they may attack me in the crowd. I hope they just ignore me. Maybe I should have kept my mouth shut and been nice as I could have used them in the future for NIN advantages but I didnt. So yeah I know that sounds awful of me to write and this shouldnt bother me but Its my insecurities that doesnt let me be strong willed as I used to be.
Meeting up from the net is cool. Ive met some cool people from the net - some are cool people from here - and luckly I havent met any psychopaths etc. But when it goes wrong its fucking annoying..anyone else had bad experiences ? how did they work out? did you see the said person ever again? |

| | | I have met up with people from the internet before and I also now fear being attacked in the crowd at NIN gigs. It's just not worth it really.

what is it with NIN fans, from what i read here it sounds like there are some real assholes?
or does that happen with other bands too?
(i only had one concert meetup so far, it was at a tegan and sara gig last week and it went well too. but honestly, you can't really go wrong with tegan and sara fans, they are all really nice haha) |

| | | Unless they're highly unstable, I can't see why they'd attack you for calling them 'cold'. Is that the worst thing you've ever said about anyone? |

Have you seen High Fidelity?
You. Are. Lovely. I'm terrible at meeting people and you were the first person at the 'cl signing' who I felt comfortable with. I walked in and asked in front of everyone if anyone was from kr and they were silent (they warmed-up later and pretty much ALL were from k-fukking-r) so I sat down alone, then we spoke. Maybe your shyness seemed to come accross as aloof-ness to them? I think you're a sweetie. I have a v good buddy who is a NIN fan and there were times when she'd run a mile rather than say hello to a stranger, she's also been spat at for her black/purple dreds, spider web morticia skirts, piercings, tattoos and 9inch booties - if you don't fit the same 'look' you might be seen as an evil 'other' so I guess they'd do the primal fight/flight, either be defensive or leg it/ignor? I often think it's these people who are the most sensitive and it's finding the right buttons. Maybe they were unsure/scared of you, if you looked slightly different, or maybe they are just plain elitist assholes?
You win some you lose some I guess, but if they're mean to you, they aren't worth shit. So fuck em xo |
