| | | why are gays so lame?? sorry for the self loathing title. I want to get to the bottom of this. Why is it common to find slutty 38 year old gay men living at their mother's home, with no desire of settling down, and who will probably end up alone??
Why are gays slutty?? why are we so shallow?? why is settling down not a goal for most people who live the gay life???
I think it's because of marriage. Wether we like it or not, marriage brings people together and it's an important institution. I think that straight people are wired to get married. It's something expected of them and it's something that most straight people aspire to. It's a long term goal for most of them, and in a way it's a responsabilty, we need to procreate and you need to get married, period.
Gay people don't have such an obligation and are not wired to get married. We weren't acknowledged as a culture until a few decades ago, while people have been married since the times of Mesopotamia.
We can't procreate, we are not accepted, and most unions are condenmed, like living together, it's still not 100% socially acceptable. Since we don't have this need and no real accountability to anyone else but ourselves, we have grown into this abominable hedonistic group of people where you have to be a meth addicted gym hunk to have some real worth and notoriety. And very, very, and I can't stress this enough, VERY FEW people don't fit into that mold. Very few, it's incredibly pathetic.
I don't know what are the long term effects of gay marriage in places like Canada or Spain, but I know that if we want to stop being such an abominable group of people, our values need to change. And they are changing. I have a gay friend in Spain, more like an online boyfriend, and he's always telling me jokingly "come to Spain, we'll get married". It's a joke but I'm sure that is something deep down he is seriously considering at one point or another, because he has the option. And the need, why not.
It's always been bleak times to be gay. But it's been getting better since 2001 when gay marriages became legal in 5 countries. It's a huge leap and I would love to know what's the current situation on the matter in those countries. |

2. before 2001 there were countries where you could get the same rights as straights (only it goes by another name than marriage)
