talking about your exes

do you avoid talking about your ex-boyfriends/girlfriends with your partner? do you think it's ok when your partner talks about his/her exes?

my boyfriend mentions his ex-girlfriend a lot and i'm so sick of it! they are still good friends and i respect her (maybe even like her) but i hate the fact that he says something about her ever so often. i know he is over her, they broke up years ago, we've been together for a long time, and there were others in between; but it's still annoying!

i think he's doing it because she's one of the few things in his past that he can remember without feeling terrible. he has had a really hard life, so she's kind of "his only happy memory..."

I wasn't allowed to talk about my ex's, and my bofriend generally didn't talk about his, one of them he saw a couple of times and I was fine with that, but the other was a psycho so I used to flip if he spoke about/to her.

I have to talk about my ex with my boyfriend, for my ex is in my band. They have naturally met each other at our shows and surprisingly they both get along very well. at least it seems like. i wouldn't have expected that because my boyfriend gets weird when i ask him about his exes. he just doesn't like to talk about them. i wonder...

I never talk about exes. I tend to think its poor form. My ex-boyfriend had no such qualms. I never let it show it annoyed me, but it just quietly grated. I just find it weird talking about exes, its like, what that was was between them and you. Talking to someone else with a negative perspective towards them just seems like it would make everyone unhappy.
