I was just thinking about Pere Ubu

Pere Ubu Hate Women
Also: Rocket From the Tombs tour, not sure how they feel about women

Ohio is the home of hardworking indie pioneers, and, not to be outdone by Robert Pollard, Pere Ubu/Rocket From the Tombs frontman David Thomas has scheduled the release of a new album and more tour dates than we can wrap our tiny little heads around.

Thomas' main band, Pere Ubu, will put out their newest album on September 19 on Smog Veil in the U.S. and Glitterhouse in Europe. It's called Why I Hate Women. Which could pretty much be the title of every emo album ever.

On the band's website, the album is described as "pushing the experimental envelope further than ever but also tightening up their trademark avant-punk attack." So basically, it's a Pere Ubu album.

Tracklist:

01 Two Girls (One Bar)
02 Babylonian Warehouses
03 Blue Velvet
04 Caroleen
05 Flames Over Nebraska
06 Love Song
07 Mona
08 My Boyfriend's Back
09 Stolen Cadillac
10 Synth Farm
11 Texas Overture

Pere Ubu will bring their hatred of women to Europe in October, with a full U.S. tour being planned for November. The Los Angeles date at the end of October is advertised as a "double bill," with the band playing a full set in addition to performing an underscore to the movie X: The Man With the X-Ray Eyes.

One man drives while the other man screams:

10-06 Vienna, Austria - Szene Wien *
10-07 Ebensee, Austria - Kino
10-08 Schio, Italy - Centro Stabile di Cultura
10-09 Basel, Switzerland - Das Schiff
10-10 Munich, Germany - Kranhalle (Feierwerk)
10-11 Darmstadt, Centralstation
10-13 Paris, France - Nouveau Casino
10-15 Dortmund, Germany - FZW
10-16 Bremen, Germany - Junges Theater
10-17 Berlin, Germany - Quasimodo
10-18 Dresden, Germany - Star Club
10-19 Hamburg, Germany - Fabrik
10-21 Brussels, Belgium - Beursschouwburg
10-22 Utrecht, Netherlands - Tivoli de Helling
10-23 Brighton, England - Komedia
10-24 London, England - Mean Fiddler #
10-29 Los Angeles, CA - Royce Hall (UCLA)
10-30 San Francisco, CA - Bottom of the Hill

If you think a live Pere Ubu soundtrack to a 1960s horror film sounds mysterious, check out the information the band's website gives regarding the DualDisc reissue of the band's 1978 debut, The Modern Dance: "The release date is not scheduled, but we have been assured there WILL be a release-- unfortunately not in America because of licensing issues. It is now expected that it will be released in the UK/Europe in June. Unlikely at this point to have a US release." At this point, it seems equally unlikely to come out in June, since June already happened.

The website is more forthcoming, however, about the contents of the reissue. "One side will be a DVD featuring a 5.1 surround sound remix of the entire album and a 30 minute interview with David Thomas, as well as a new mastering of the original stereo album at DVD audio quality. The other side will feature a CD format of the new mastering of the original stereo album."

Thomas' first band, the recently reformed proto-supergroup Rocket From the Tombs, is keeping busy as well. A press release informs us of "a successful writing session in Cleveland this past April" and a U.S. tour to keep up the momentum. If the website is any indication of how things work in the Ubu/Rocket camp, we're not getting our hopes up for a new album anytime soon, but at least you don't have to wait six months for these dates. The reformed lineup still consists of original members Thomas, Cheetah Chrome, and Craig Bell as well as Richard Lloyd (Television) and Steve Mehlman (Pere Ubu).

Rock it from the rooms:

07-26 Cleveland, OH - Beachland Ballroom *
07-27 Pittsburgh, PA - Club Café
07-28 New Haven, CT - Café Nine
07-29 Brooklyn, NY - Southpaw
07-30 Hoboken, NJ - Maxwell's #
07-31 Cambridge, MA - TT the Bear's %
08-01 Northampton, MA - Pearl Street !

09-02 Atlanta, GA - Starlight Six Drive-In $

Robert Pollard, eat your heart out.
