Derek Sherinian, dubbed "the Caligula of keyboards" by Alice Cooper, assembled a star-studded cast to help out on his fifth solo album of progressive rock, jazz/rock-fusion and metal, according to ChartAttack. For his new album, Blood Of The Snake, he called upon many of his high-profile friends for assistance, including Kiss and Dream Theater.
Billy Idol sings and Slash plays guitar on a cover of Mungo Jerry's "In The Summertime," which Sherinian says was his favourite song when he was three. "Billy started singing it one day at soundcheck and we started jamming on it. We agreed it would be a great song to cover one day. Slash was the perfect guitarist for this track."
Also joining Sherinian on the album are guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci and longtime collaborators Zakk Wylde (guitar), Brad Gillis (guitar), Simon Phillips (drums), Tony Franklin (bass) and Brian Tichy (drums). Wylde also contributes vocals on "Man With No Name."
"Zakk sounds like vintage Ozzy on this track," says Sherinian. "He sings and plays great on this song."
Blood Of The Snake will be released on August 1 by Inside Out Music. The tracklisting for the album can be found here.
Sherinian will tour Europe this summer as Idol's keyboardist.
