Oasis are set to release an 18-track double-disc retrospective set featuring some of their biggest hits along with album cuts and B-sides. Stop The Clocks, which Sony BMG is hailing as the band's "definitive collection," will be released on November 21.
Oasis have taken the reins themselves on the project and selected the songs that they feel represent their finest moments. Although a full track list hasn't been disclosed, the record company has confirmed that Stop The Clocks will feature "Supersonic," "Wonderwall" and the more recent "The Importance Of Being Idle."
It was also suggested that several of the album's tracks will come from Oasis' groundbreaking second disc, What's The Story, (Morning Glory), which remains the highest ever certified album in the U.K. at 14 times platinum.
The B-sides set to appear on the disc include "Acquiesce" and "Half The World Away." Oasis have mentioned during past interviews that they've recorded a song titled "Stop The Clocks," but it's unclear whether or not it will appear on this compilation.
The fact that this best-of is even being released is a remarkable feat in itself, as
Noel Gallagher told NME.com at this time last year that it would only be made if the band broke up.
"This is right from the horse's mouth," Gallagher stated. "We will only do a best-of when we split up… I never understood
Blur putting out best-ofs — I mean, what the fuck's that all about?
"It's kind of saying that whatever you're gonna do from there on is not gonna be your best. We'll put out a best-of when we stop. No best-of or singles album until it's done and dusted."
In spite of what Gallagher's comments suggest, the band are apparently still together and will soon start work on their next full-length.
