| | | Cant wait for Hip Hop to die... Its so true! hip hop has dominated the airwaves for too long. By this, it has completely shut down the doors on what I consider to be "good pop", hence, Madonna or even quality rock bands, which are far and few in between nowadays.
whatever, Im hanging on to my PJ Harvey records... |

Madonna is huge in europe, one album is bigger than the next, she's huge in latin america, I mean she's huge everywhere but she only tours the US and Europe. Most of the dates in the curretn tour are American.
I think she should do like she did with the Girlie Show, have like 3 dates in America and tour the rest of the world and punish those fuckers!!!!!!!!!!! | oh no, it's back. doens't madonna has a restraining order against you?
the markets in europe and north america are extremley different. dance music is embraced overseas where rock and hip hop dominate here. dance music never made it to the mainstream here. i can see why this album is having a hard time on US radio and doing so well elsewhere. radio here is based mainly on genre of music and dance type stations are now few and far between. in the UK and europe radio plays a bit of everything and it's not unheard of hearing dance, rock, rap and pop in the same set.
in fact canada is quite different from the states. any british band will do better here than in the US. even robbie williams does better here than south of our border.
as for touring, she's not palying many american cities, and only 1 canadian. alot of this is due to the fact touring is hard and her shows are not your typical rock concert....they are major productions. it is much easier to set up in a city for 3-4 days, play to a large amount of people and move on. the production costs of transportation must be staggering.
she's also got a family and tours around her kids summer vacations so she can have them near her at all times.
good luck on her coming to panama, we can't get her to toronto half the time.

Would they have the balls to be first??? of course not. Only Madonna has them. | madonna fans aren't as fickle as dixie chicks fans. what they did took a alot of courage considering it's ruined their fanbase in america.
do you think middle america cares if madonna hates bush? not at all.

that never happened in europe. the discotheque scene got bigger. and continued to thrive throughout the '80s. house/club/disco/dance/techno/trance charted regularly on european airwaves. that's why michael jackson was always a bigger star over there. even when he was the uncoolest possible thing alive here, his albums were selling big in europe.
once in a blue moon a club hit will make it on Top-40 radio. but those are usually only the quirkiest, most attention-grabbing hits... Rednexx, Eiffel 65, Aqua, Tatu. maybe Madonna was trying to (re-)set the precedent back a couple decades, but i don't think her name alone is strong enough revive this trend.

| | | sorry to post a third time in a row, but, if you even think about it, how is a station supposed to work madonna's new songs into a set without it sounding abnormally out of place?
what are they going to follow her up with? black-eyed peas? nelly furtado?

haha.
i remember reading in billboard before the album came out that Hung Up was the perfect single because it was something you could stick in between a rap song and a green day song. |

| | | Get Together is currently #10 in single sales in the U.S. Album sales are healthy and her shows are selling out. And from what I know of MTV, they still love her. U.S. radio is clueless. |

what it is is that the United States has become hyperconservative.
Bush and all...they couldn't lick him, so...
very very repressed, and it shows in pop culture.
it's a throwback to Reagan era values...
greed and conformity, the status quo...
what happens next? ClearChannel are glommy fascists,
beastieboys and lenny kravitz had antiwar stuff that came out
in '03. by that time, though megacorporation clearchannel had bought up ALMOST ALL RADIO,
they are probush
so voila! nothing new could get out.
madonna's somewhat subversive actually, she doesn't project sexual guilt,
but permissiveness, and now things are so conservative... | |
