You have valid opinions. I have to say though -- sometimes I hate myself for being jaded, but then I get over it. It's like when a kid is all excited about this amazing band that no one has ever heard of whose albums hardcore fans accross the globe owned since the first 7 inch and they have sold out clubs for a decade plus. Or a film I assume everyone has seen and someone lets me in on the big secret. Not that I am trying to be hipper than though at all -- I am just a music dork and I hardly come close to knowing a fraction of what I feel I should / would like to know. You can discuss whatever you like musically -- of course, but the topic has been overdone. (The conspiracy thing aside, which will get you openly mocked at KR because it is passe and really belongs on a Kurt site.) Like the phrase "beating a dead horse?" Sort of like that. People have been calling him overrated and "not a God" since the grunge explosion well before the myth, the legend, the death of "the voice of a generation" spiel. The fact that he joined the 27 club only exacerbated it and made people talk more. It's like a marshmellow at a weenie roast that isn't just done but charred -- so overdone. I'm not sure if some of your posts are genuine or trying to be controversial. Clearly I am too old for the internet. Too late to sat long story short -- but many people feel the same way and have expressed it in print/ general media / the internet repeatedly -- especially here.

Some people love him and respect him and find meaning and expressin through him.
Some just want to have been there. Some just try to fit in.

People like to regurgitate critic's opinions. Who knows why? It's like when my Mom hears on the radio everyone is seeing a film -- suddenly it's so interesting to her when she didn;t give a toss the week prior. People like what tv and radio tell them. People buy into mythology.
People like to have idols. And as Naked Raygun sang "What poor Gods we do make."

I do agree to some of what you wrote.

Kurt is overrated. I didnt thought so when I was 14, but Im older and a bit (!!??) wiser today. He was a depressed junkie that didnt had the strength to to stay and fight.
Yes, he did write some great music and I do like some of his lyrics but as many other rockstars, he got the " God" status after he died.

He wouldnt have been anywhere NEAR as famous that he is today if he was still alive. Death has a way of making you very famous.
I dont think HE actually is to "blame" for the God status he has, the blind fans are ( fans like me when I was 14!) He just coulndt handle it all. And that is sad.. but not any sadder than other people killing themselves.

And when it comes to Courtney, I think shen is soooo overrated too! Yeah, she does write great lyrics but that is that. She is most famous for being a white trash junkie idiot who cant take care of her kid and being a complete selfish asshole. Starfucker de lux in my eyes.
I used to like her but the last years I just had enough of her. Shes pathetic. Though the music is still good.
