The Flaming Lips Go Gold!

Hurrah for The Flaming Lips, they have much to celebrate! The R.I.A.A. has certified their Grammy-winning smash Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots the first ever Flaming Lips Gold record!

Current LP At War With The Mystics was released last week to global critical praise, landing their highest U.S. chart debut of their 23 year history, entering at #11 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart.

In other news, The Flaming Lips have made available a handful of new non-LP tracks in cyber-space. Fans interested in purchasing Lips music online can visit iTunes or other digital retailers to buy the “Premium Bundle,” which includes the new album plus three non-album tracks: "Gold Mountain Of Our Madness", a special long version of "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song", and their glorious studio version of Queen’s "Bohemian Rhapsody."

If record stores are your preference, selected indie outlets are also stocking a limited edition 3-song CD EP called The W.A.N.D, comprised of the track of the same name, plus two non-album recordings, "You’ve Got To Hold On", and "Time Travel…Yes!!" The Flaming Lips live is a life affirming experience. I adore this band and they help me keep the faith in music. Dont forget -- there is a new book out Staring at Sound: The True Story of Oklahoma's Fabulous Flaming Lips
by Jim Derogatis. It's a good read to be sure and written by a die hard fan.

what's funny (?) is that when i was last in tulsa (1999), a lot of kids i talked to knew who the flaming lips were (vis a vis 'she don't use jelly') but had no idea the group hailed from OK city -let alone the state.

I know - I used to always get " are they still together?" "who?" or " oh that vaseline band?"
