Lil' Kim to be Released From Prison on Monday

Independence Day will arrive a day early for Lil’ Kim.


After being deemed a model prisoner, rapper Lil’ Kim has been granted an early release from prison. According to the Philadelphia Daily News, Kim is scheduled to exit Philadelphia's Federal Detention Center on Monday morning (July 3) between 6 and 10 a.m.



Kim’s laywer James J. Leonard Jr. says his client will head straight to an undisclosed New Jersey location for processing, following her release from prison.


Kim was convicted of perjury for lying to protect a friend on trial over a shooting outside New York City-based radio station Hot 97. The diminutive rapper then turned herself into authorities on Sept. 20 of last year to begin her original sentence of a year and a day.


Despite the early release, Kim will have to begin serving a month's house arrest at her North Jersey home.

NEW YORK - Lil’ Kim says she’ll be celebrating Independence Day early this year.

The rapper, who was sentenced in September to a year and a day in prison for lying about a shootout outside a hip-hop radio station, is being released Monday, the day before July Fourth.

“I am thrilled to be coming home,” Lil’ Kim said Thursday in a statement issued by her publicist, Tracy Nguyen. “I thank all my fans for all their letters, as well as my family and friends for all their support throughout the past 10 months.”

The entertainer, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, began serving her time at a federal detention center in Philadelphia on Sept. 19. Her lawyer, L. Londell McMillan, noted then that she could be released early for good behavior.

“She has accepted responsibility and handled herself in an exemplary manner,” McMillan said Thursday.

The rapper, who will remain under house arrest for 30 days after her release, was convicted of lying to a federal grand jury and in the subsequent trial.

The case stemmed from a gun battle that erupted outside WQHT-FM, known as Hot 97, when Lil’ Kim’s entourage crossed paths with a rival rap group, Capone-N-Noreaga, whose song “Bang, Bang” contains an insult to her from rival Foxy Brown. One man was hurt in the shootout that followed.

Lil’ Kim, who won a Grammy in 2001 for her part in the hit remake of “Lady Marmalade,” maintained she hadn’t noticed two of her close friends — who later pleaded guilty to gun charges — at the scene of the shootout. But jurors at her trial saw radio station security photos that depicted one of them opening a door for her, and witnesses said they saw her at the station with both of them.

I think she should have served the sentence, too, just as an example for others ... people need to see that perjury is a serious offense.

Still, it's expected that you should lie to protect your people in the social circle she's in. It's part of the street life. So, I can understand why she did it, and there's probably a lot of people that admire her for going down just to protect the people she cares about.

I'm glad she's coming back, kinda feel sorry for Foxy now. But my god I hope Kim can stay away from the surgeries. She's so adorable but it's so obvious that she doesn't have a strong self esteem.

i completely agree, what she did was extremely wrong and could have prevented justice from being served. If you ask me, she should have gone to prison far longer than she was even sentenced for. She lied about a murder...life was involved....
