the late great daniel johnston discovered covered

does anyone else have this?
it features a bunch of gay bands you dorks seem to love.
its probably too indie for hoel though.
errrrrgh. brain death.
surely someone likes the man himself and not just bright eyes massacreing a great song?
here is the tracklisting of the coveres cd

My Life Is Starting Over Again/Teenage Fanclub with Jad Fair
Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Your Grievience/Clem Snide
Impossible Love/Gordon Gano
Living Life/Eels
Walking The Cow/T.V. On The Radio
Good Morning You/The Rabbit
Sorry Entertainer/Calvin Johnson
Devil Town/Bright Eyes
Dream Scream/Death Cab For Cutie
True Love Will Find You In The End/Beck
Go/Sparklehorse w/ Flaming Lips
Blue Clouds/Mercury Rev
Love Not Dead/Thistle
Like A Monkey In The Zoo/Vic Chesnutt
Dead Lovers Twisted Heart/Starlight Mints
Story Of An Artist/M. Ward
The Sun Shines Down On Me/Guster
King Kong/Tom Waits

beck kills the song much like most of these "artists"
at least the originals cd is decent

I have that album. I think some of the covers are pretty good; you're a little harsh on it. The Eels one I like a lot but you're right about the Beck version being shit. I have never 'got' Beck.

i am just a huge believer in covers being done well. covers should add soemthing to the song. beck ruined my favourite song. especially when you hear j spaceman do the first song and turn it into something so heartwrenching and amazing then some little scientologist quasi fuck prat screws it hard? FUCKED!
wtf is thistle?
eels just sounded like eels. ie. utter gobshite.

most of the covers are shit and for some reason they're all made much longer than the originals.

becks, the rabbits, bright eyes, starlight mints are all double the length. and that Vic Chesnutt fellow takes monkey in a zoo (my favourite song) from 2:20 to 5:20!!! I dunno why but they all stretched them out ridiculously.

I noticed rock this town wasn't covered but was on the Daniel Johnston side, at over 6 minutes it probably would have taken up an entire CD if they'd let one of those dorks touch it.

That said I like Gusters cover of The Sun Shines Down On Me.
