mixtapes you've made or been made

have you got any of them still hanging around?
I just finished reading an awesome book called casette from my ex, where people write about the mixtapes exes made for them.
if you got any post the playlists and tell me about them.

Gelf, was it the book curated by Thurston Moore?
I have that too

I have boxes of the damned things.
There are maybe 20 I would never throw away, because even if the songs don't mean anything to me anymore they are of great sentiment.

I have one tape that when I started writing fanzines, when I was about 15, a friend sent to me that had lots of Riot Grrl on (most of which I don't like, but it had the odd gem on) that I love because it reminds me of how ****ing exciting it was to meet and write letters to people who were into similar things than me & made me fee less like a pariah in a little 'redneck' (redneck isn't really the write word for British use, but it illustrates my point perfectly) village.

Also, I got a tape from my last significant ex (when I was 20?) & again, I love half of it but I can't listen to it without feeling overwhelmingly sad, especially when it get's to Pavement.

Probably the best tape I ever recieved was from a girl who I was later in a band with & it was a very hard to find (pre internets) Frightwig record.

I love it when people go all out with mixxtape artwork too

i've got hundreds. in three drawers made for storing, stacked up.

& i have about a hundred in shoebox size containers.
my faves are in large jewelry boxes.
i like them as is, i don't care that they take up a lot of space.

1/2 are from my ex, who made me the best - he remembers my faves & is a dj, so these tapes have inside jokes, ect.

many are from Rodney Bingenheimer's show, some from way back when he played nothing but punk rok, then brit pop.i love that he always says who played the songs, stories about the band
in fact, he's broadcasting now The World Famous KROQ - Alt Rock Music News, Photos, Videos, Concerts

he was the 1st dj to play the Runaways, Blondie, the Ramones, Iggy, New York Dolls, Zolar X, Hole - on the radio - & many more new artists.

as for transferring, i like seeing the handwriting of the friends who made them. & the diff between analog & digital - i can tell the difference.
