Madonna Enjoys Mariah's Misfortune? Madge reportedly laughs at Mariah's low ticket sales.
Madonna's spokespeople are playing damage control after the press reported that the Material Girl
"laughed hysterically" upon hearing news that
Mariah Carey's summer tour of the States was being
met with disappointing advance ticket sales.
"She has been asking her tour promoters to email her Mariah's sales," a source told
New York Daily News.
Not so, says Madonna's corner. "She has no negative feelings toward Mariah," said a representative.
Mariah's corner, meanwhile, put on a straight face and said that the show cancellations weren't due
to sagging ticket sales but were instead due to a desire to add more shows in the major markets.
Why would Madonna wish financial ruin upon Mariah? The two may jostle with each other on the charts,
but operate in separate genres and aren't typically in competition with one another. Apparently Madonna
was irked when Mariah once said that she "grew up" listening to Madonna's music; the two singers are
separated by a mere 11 years in age.
Madonna's "Confessions" tour, meanwhile, continues to be a runaway success. Enough cash is rolling in
that she didn't blink in turning down a $3 million offer to appear in an advertisement for a sex and diet pill,
leading the pill manufacturer's rejected boss to say, "It was deemed too raunchy for her new lady-of-the-manor
image. It seems
crucifixions are OK, but talking about her sex life isn't."
And now that
Britney Spears has flown the Kaballah coop, Madonna reportedly has her eyes on new
acolyte
Lindsay Lohan. According to different sources, a musical duet, a movie, or a joint trip to Israel could
be in the works.
