The Arcade Fire
Montreal's Arcade Fire are hard at work on the follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2004 album, Funeral. Though no release date has been set for their latest disc, it seems as though the project is nearing completion.
"We have maybe 15 songs with little bits left to record and a few more we want to get on tape," writes singer Win Butler on the band's website. "We are going to try and record a couple of songs in me and Regine's [Chassagne, his wife and bandmate] living room, because the drums sound so great in there."
The new album is mainly being recorded in a Montreal church that the band purchased last year and converted into a studio. They've sequestered themselves there after finally completing touring in support of Funeral last fall.
Arcade Fire recently recorded a pipe organ on two songs, and other new instruments will also be introduced on the album. "Its gonna be really interesting how were going to fit all of these new sounds in a tour bus," Butler ponders.
As they did with Funeral, the band have again recruited their friend Owen Pallett (a.k.a. Final Fantasy) to beef up their ever-growing string section.
"Owen is coming here to record with us in early July," Butler reports, "and there is talk of recording a few songs with a full orchestra in Budapest just before Tim [Kingsbury, band member] and Natalie's wedding in late July."
Arcade Fire don't currently have any live dates scheduled, but it's rumoured that they'll play a handful of Canadian shows this fall.
