Korn frontman hospitalised, out of Download

Korn frontman hospitalised, out of Download

But the show will go on thanks to the band's celebrity mates

http://www.nme.com/festivals/news/23290

Korn frontman Jonathan Davis has had to pull out of his band's appearance at Download this evening.

The nu-metal singer was admitted to an unspecified UK hospital earlier, although there are currently no details on his condition.

However, the rest of Korn will still take to Download's Main Stage at 6.30pm today. The band will play a shortened 30 minute set, with a variety of guests helping out on vocals.

This surprise turn of events echoes Metallica's predicament at this very festival two years ago, when drummer Lars Ulrich suffered a medical emergency at the eleventh hour and was unable to play. Drummers from Slipknot and Slayer filled in for their headline show.

And the fact that Davis himself once understudied for a sick James Hetfield has led to onsite speculation that the mystery lead singer may turn out to be the Metallica frontman himself.

Keep watching NME.COM as events unfold.

He has a condition where his blood platelet count was too low, and thus his blood is unable to clot and he was in danger of haemmoraging (sp?).

The festival was fucking mental. Riots and shit. I'll have to find the news link and post it here.

Twelve held after rock festival

About 12 people were detained by police after trouble broke out overnight at a rock festival.

Leicestershire Police were called to the site of the Download Festival at Donington Park on Sunday night after reports of fires being started.

They said when officers arrived, missiles were thrown at them while they tried to control the situation. No-one was seriously hurt.

Some of those detained could face charges of assault and criminal damage.

Mobile phone appeal

Police had earlier praised festival-goers and organisers for the well-run event as only four arrests had been reported until the trouble on Sunday night.

Superintendent Les Milner, of Leicestershire Police, appealed for anyone who may have taken pictures or footage of the attacks on their mobile phones to get in touch.

Elements of the organisation of the Download festival were absolutely disgraceful

"The disorder involved a number of people and it is not clear at this early stage what sparked the trouble," he said.

Supt Milner said investigations were ongoing and police were collecting witness statements from people still on the site.

Festival director Stuart Galbraith, managing director of Live Nation Music UK, said: "There were 75,000 people per day at the event, and up until last night, there had been no major incidents over the weekend.

"The trouble involved a small number of otherwise fantastic customers who attended this massively successful event.

"This type of trouble is very rare and is completely out of character for Download fans," he said.

Headline act Guns N' Roses closed the three-day festival.

The band's last appearance at the festival in 1988 ended in trouble when a crowd of 107, 000 people surged towards the stage, crushing two fans to death.

Metallica put on puppet show at Download

While Korn get by with a little help from their friends

Metallica brought an eventful day at Download to an eventful climax tonight (June 10).

For their seventh visit to Donington Racetrack, the heavy metal veterans dedicated a large part of their set to playing 1986 classic 'Master Of Puppets' in its entirety.

Before 'Leper Messiah', frontman James Hetfield asked the crowd, "who bought 'Master Of Puppets' when it first came out?" When met with a muted response by the audience of young festival-goers, he responded; "well who's got it now? Well that's what matters, you're here and you're digging it!"

Early on in the set Metallica also debuted a new song, which Hetfield said was called simply 'The New Song'.

But Hetfield did not join Korn onstage, as had been rumoured earlier in the day.

The nu-metal heavyweights played out their own version of Metallica's 2004 drama when singer Jonathan Davis was hospitalised at the last minute with a mystery illness.

But the band played on, joined by a succession of famous friends plucked from today's line-up, making for an unusual setlist that looked like this:

'Its On' (with Jesse Hasek from 10 Years)
'Falling Away' (with M Shadow from Avenged Sevenfold)
'Somebody' (with Dez Fafara from Devildriver)
'Coming Undone' (with Dez Fafara from 'Devildriver')
'A.D.I.D.A.S.' (with Benji Webbe from Skindred)
'Clown' (with Corey Taylor from Stone Sour)
'Freak' (with Corey Taylor from Stone Sour)
'Blind' (with Matt Healy from Trivium)

Other acts performing today included Secret Machines, Mondo Generator and, for anyone not watching the football, Alice In Chains and Henry Rollins .

Download continues tomorrow with the return of Guns n' Roses.
