I know a little bit about the Stones but why does that album always rank as one of there best? I didnt even recgonize any of the songs on Wiki and wondered why it is refered to so much as comapred to other Sotnes albums.
What did Liz Phair mean when she said that her album Guyville was a direct repsonse to Main Street?
Just wondering why this Stones Cd has been mentioned so many times.

The Rolling Stones, are one of those over rated bands.

No they have been around along time and were able to overcome trends. They had alot of neat album covers like the wig one some others. I never thought they were overated.
I just dont know why this album gets more mention then others.

Well, out of all their albums (which is a lot) there are only about five or six songs that I would say aren`t bad. Soooo... in my opinion they are over rated.

My parents think they`re good shit though?

Didn't they largely overcome trends by basically ignoring them and hardly changing ever? Apart from the vaguely disco-ish album (which is one of my favourites)?

Exile on Main Street is good, but it can be a drag if you aren't in the mood for it. The first side doesn't blow me away, but if you let the whole thing wash over you, it's probably a better listen than any of their other albums. Best listened to in an empty room. Apart from the record player.
