Dolores O’Riordan Tour Canceled, Cranberries Reunion Ahead????

Less than a month after announcing the dates for her 2009 North American tour, singer-songwriter Dolores O’Riordan has canceled all 13 upcoming gigs.

The Irish singer and leader of The Cranberries was set to kick off the tour Sept. 23 at the Club Soda in Montreal with dates through an Oct. 12 show at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Additional shows were set for Washington D.C., New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, Denver, Minneapolis and San Francisco.

The tour was canceled without a specific reason given.

“The winds of change are blowing strongly, and as a result the 2009 Dolores O'Riordan tour has been cancelled,” reads a message on O’Riordan’s Web site.

“At this time, Dolores expresses her very sincere apologies, but has asked us to relay to all of you that with change...what was old, just may become new again. Stay tuned for further special announcements.”

O’Riordan last toured in December 2007. The Cranberries have been on hiatus since 2003 and last performed together in December 2002.

I was with my aunt and uncle one day, and auntie had bought a copy of People magazine at Safeway. She was looking through it as we drove home, and recited a passage in the pans section that said "O'Riordan not O'riginal"...she sarcastically commented that this was "wordplay worthy of Joyce."

My uncle said "why, because they're both Irish?" with all the resentment in the world in his voice. This really messed me up a bit because it's the first time I realized a husband and wife could fucking abhor each other.

In an attempt to break the tension, I adopted some Shirley Templesque voice I figured would be helpful and said "Joyce is my teacher's name" in a hope that they would chuckle and say "is that right?" or something like that.

Instead they just remained silent and I felt so ashamed and helpless. I'm glad they were incapable of having children of their own.

Exactly two weeks to the day after singer Dolores O’Riordan pulled the plug on the North American tour for her latest solo release, No Baggage, the reason is revealed.

O’Riordan and the original members of The Cranberries, on hiatus for almost seven years, have decided to reform.

“I’ve decided to reunite with my former band members in The Cranberries and we will be writing new songs and performing tracks off my new album as well as our greatest hits during the shows,” O’Riordan said.

The decision came after a January gig at Dublin’s Trinity College featuring the singer and band members Noel and Mike Hogan.

The performance, which marked O’Riordan’s induction as an Honorary Patron of Trinity’s Philosophical Society, was the first time The Cranberries’ members had seen each other since 2003.

Playing together made the group realize how much they’d missed working together.

“Over the last few years, each member of the band has had time to work on different projects and learn so much from their experience,” guitarist and co-songwriter Noel Hogan explained. “Now the time is right for The Cranberries to bring all of this together and move forward.”

The reformed Cranberries will hit the road in North America at the end of the year and move on to Europe in early 2010. Dates are expected shortly.

No Baggage, on which O’Riordan wrote and co-produced every track, is out today.
