Dresden Dolls
Bostonian dynamic duo
The Dresden Dolls are taking a novel approach to the promotion of their latest album, Yes, Virginia. Singer/pianist
Amanda Palmer is taking the Dolls' music on the road as a celluloid vaudeville act called Fuck The Back Row.
Palmer and her act will be hitting cinemas across North America this summer in conjunction with a proper Dresden Dolls tour. The ambitious Fuck The Back Row program will be a performance in three parts.
The main body will consist of short films selected from submissions by Dresden Dolls fans. The shorts feature a mixture of high art, humour, sexiness and downright weirdness. The collection was curated by indie film iconoclast
Michael Pope (the director of the band's videos) and
BriAnna Olson (the producer of the band's video for "Sing").
The film portion of the night will also include never-before-seen band documentary footage and fan-made music videos set to The Dresden Dolls' music.
Peppered between the films will be cabaret performances by artists from each city, including MCs, theatre groups and assorted oddballs. Through this use of local talent, Fuck The Back Row promises to be a unique event on every occasion.
To close out each night, Palmer will sit down at the piano and belt out covers of songs from popular and not-so-popular film soundtracks.
Fuck The Back Row will make these two stops in Canada:
July 15 Toronto, ON @ Bloor Cinema
July 16 Montreal, QC @ Mile End
