| | Music And How You Think It Will Change Hello. I was watching the Henry Rollins show yesterday and he was interviewing Patton Oswalt and the thing that striked my curiosty was when oswalt asks Henry Rollins when the rock music is going to get better and Rollins responded by saying something like , that he believed that rock music will become something that is a mixture of system of a down and i .... believe... queens of the stone age. To be honest i like queens of the stone age but im not sure that i like system of a down.anyways my question is is how you think music will change in the near future and WHAT artist of today do you think are going to be remembered influences. Im just curious.oh,and what do you think of henry rollins prediction.

| | | sorry. i messed up my own thread but ummm ... i didnt mean the whole music scene itself i meant rock music and how it will change...maybe hip hop will be what we consider rock ... blues and jazz was the early origins of rock and after rock progressed blue and jazz was probally a bit forgotten...i don't know im not to keen on the history of rock music... |

| | | well i remember once back in the 90s people were saying ska was going to be huge then people were touting electronica.at the end of the 90s was nu metal then garage then retro along with emo.those were just a couple of the acts out at the time but were the ones pushed to the forefront but i see music becoming even more diverse.i wish that their was more women in rock.the thing which i have noticed is that a good number of the newer acts list joy division as one of their chief influences.now in the 90s alot of people had listed the ramones.the thing i hate most is some of the terminology placed on music like post modern rock and even modern rock for i just use alternative.what could they say after post modern -ultra post modern or mega post modern.perhaps there will be a new genre or something or a genre that never got much attention in the past will become mainstream. |

| | | I really hope the sound quality is going to get better.
Right now, we're just in the infancy of the switch to digital media, from analogue.
So, there are all these digital tools people have to make music sound better. These mixing and mastering tools are GREAT for pop and rap, but HORRIBLE for rock. But they are also used anyway.
Also, the volume of songs keeps getting louder (the average volume, based on the mixing) because it sounds better on the radio. But it totally degrades the sound quality. It's called the "loudness war." I am hoping a truce will be reached.
I really think a big part of the reason why rock music sounds horrible today is the mixing and mastering. |

His comments remind me of when people thought nu metal was the future...but yeah, I already had a thread about that. |

She did a duet with some Jheri-curled, stone-washed R&B group in the 1980s. They looked better than her, sad to say.
Anyway, I wish I had more of a comment about the direction of music. Every so often I feel like giving up on music, but something comes along like Gnarls Barkley or Hot Chip, and I begin to feel very good about music again. I feel that the trend of disposable "artists" (ones that are very obviously marketed to be successes, etc.) is very dangerous, I wish there was some kind of movement that came above-ground to make this shit less visible again. I feel like there hasn't been anything like that in a long time. I feel like anything good or interesting has to be music done by people or groups independently...but that's nothing new, I guess.

I'm listening to Evelyn Thomas, High Energy, right now. I cried when I found out Sam was a lez, obv. I treasured he performance on Charles in Charge - she really stretched herself to play a vixen-ish british pop star called Sam Smith. Quote: |

Also saw Orson, answering the question of how long it would take until Scissor Sisters wannabes infiltrated the charts. NOT LONG. |

| | Glad you liked Hot Chip... Yeah, Full Force were a mess. They had the most extensive Jheri curls of the 1980s, I think...

I also liked the hits by Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam featuring Full Force. A mouthful.
I've moved on to Just an Illusion by Imagination now. Any song sampled by PM Dawn is automatically NICE. |

To do less would be to disrespect Ms Glammy. "If you don't like Hole why are you at a Courtney Love messageboard?!?!" - oh why must we keep explaining.
Should I get Jheri curls, or just encourage one of my friends to do it? |

Do you have curly hair? If you do, get this following spray and let them flow free, and feel oh so silky smooth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWUTDC80B1E
