Garage Music puts the Fun Back in Music Again!!

Well, I officially have two picks for the summer. It won't rebuild nations or make you see your life in a different light, but rock and roll wasn't supposed to do that anyways. It was supposed to be fun.

1. The Raconteurs: "Broken Boy Soldiers" Jack White's "other band". I'm sure you've all heard a single or two by now. It's straight-up good garage rock. Seize upon a good band when it comes around because that opportunity is becoming farther and few between!

2. The Greenhornes: "Sewed Soles" Ok, I'm cheating a little bit because it features two members of the Raconteurs but so what?? It's an incredible band because it is raw, raw, raw, but it has a great beat and it's easy to dance to! Some of it's songs could easily pass for early Kinks or Beatles without pissing you off, but every song has a different but cool vibe and really, isn't that what summer is all about??

Those are my picks for the summer. Not real deep, but lots of talent in there, and lots of fun.

I'll have to listen to the Greenhornes. I totally agree about the Raconteurs. They're a good band and put out a good album. I didn't feel particularly inspired by it or anything...I just felt very pleased. Satisfying.

Raconteurs is good.
I do hope jack gets recording more white stripes soon, but whatever.
I have never heard the greenhornes. I usually like 'rawness' though

You guys really do need to check out the Greenhornes. It's just plain fun and it's no cheap knockoff of the White Stripes of the Raconteurs. It's got it's own thing going on and yep, it has a few songs that could pass for the Kinks but not in an offensive way.

If you do give it a listen, let me know what you think. Even if you hate it. I'd just like the feedback!

They have some old Greenhornes live performances on punkcast.com, plus tons of other goodies. Sorry, I have too many windows open to post a link.

I agree.

Thanks CL! I really like garage/60s revival bands of the 80s such as the Chesterfield Kings and the Pandoras and I have a couple of Greenhornes albums and like them a lot.
