Listening to albums in order

Lately, I've been a bit OCD and I've been feeling bad for downloading random songs in random order and I've been trying to get songs in their album order and listening to them in their album order.

I did that for Pod, but now I listen to the tracks out of order and only listen to specific ones.

Generally, if the song was released a single, I feel less bad for listening to it without waiting four tracks or so to.

Also, soulseek isn't working for me and I can't use torrents . . . Limewire isn't reliable for getting whole albums

I don't know, I just wanted to ask what you guys think of listening to albums, and not nitpicking out songs.

I generally obsess over one song for awhile before actually listening to an album proper. For example, Blonde Redhead's 23. I must've listened to "Silently" 500 times before I actually hunkered down with headphones and listened closely to the full album....still think that is the best song on it, but the rest of the album ain't bad....if a tad mopey and Radiohead-ish.

When I get an album I make sure I listen to it a couple of times in its proper order. When I like the artist, I know they have chosen the order and the tracks for a reason. And I just pay too much attention to something when I like it, it's an obsession. I listen to the same album so many times, that's probably the reason why I find myself with no time to get new stuff to hear.

I think that's because I see listening to a good album not only as joy but as studying. I guess being a musician that's what you do. i try to understand every single sound and every single choice.

etc etc I could go on about it forever and make no sense
but you just gave me this idea:

I wanna pick an artist I like and listen to the albums from first to last no skipping nothing

I didn't like Silently much...
I was obsessed with 23 first, it's such a grand opening...
And then with I enjoyed the Dress
And then I went straight to it
spring and by summer...

and

PUBLISHER

because I always end up loving his songs and his voice more than hers
there's something about his songs that is a little bit lee ranaldo-ish
and his voice is a little bit daniel johnston

somethings in this album remind me of the smiths

I'll tend to listen to an album start-to-finish a few times. From that I usually end up with maybe two or three favourite tracks that I go back to obsessively, and from time to time I'll give the whole thing a spin again.

Does anybody ever rearrange the track order on an album b/c they think it'd work better in a different order? It's not something I've ever done, but I've heard of people who like to do that.

I'm with MK, I reckon artists put tracks in a specific order for a reason, and it is as much a part of the craft as the songs themselves. Having said that, I can think of at least one album I love that has what I consider to be a dreadful track order, but I doubt I could come up with a better one. And even if I thought I could, I don't think I'd want to actually do it.
