Does music sound better with headphones on? How do you like to listen to music?

I wasn't really sure which forum to put this in. I guess this is where it belongs.

I think headphones are way better. With speakers, you have to mess around positioning them in order to get the best surround sound. Headphones, on the other hand, accommodate your ears so you get perfect surround sound without having to do any fiddling. The music fills your head and blocks out all other sounds, it's great. I didn't realise what a huge difference it made until about a year ago when I was hovering and well obviously headphones are ideal for that.

I think the best way to listen to music is in bed when you're about to go to sleep because you have nothing to distract you from it and you can appreciate it fully. Listening to music in bed with headphones on is one of the single greatest pleasures I have in life I usually listen to more jazz and classical when I go beddy byes.

Do you listen to music on the computer? I know some music-lovers who don't because they can't multi-task like that. I usually have music playing when I'm talking to people on MSN, browsing sites, posting on forums, etc. I don't listen to music when I'm doing assignments or other yucky stuff which requires concentration.

Like most people, I like to listen to music when I'm out walking, in which case I tend to prefer upbeat, energetic stuff. House music is usually good to get my adrenaline going. A Guy Called Gerald, 4Hero and Daft Punk have been dominating my walking playlist lately ^_^ Also there's nothing like a bit of "hard rock" with a good rhythm to motivate you to shift your arse, anything from Kyuss, QOTSA, Rage Against the Machine, Melvins, Butthole Surfers, Sebadoh.... good stuff, good stuff

So here's to headphones - a truly great invention!

I have music playing permanently when I am on the computer and it is always through headphones because the computer is downstairs and my father is usually watching television at the same time.

Generally, for real pure listening, headphones are definitely superior. You hear things you have never heard before and the production of a record can really shine through. This obviously depends on the headphone but even just spending forty or so pounds on a pair of lower end Sennheisers can really make a difference.

I know every one rips on Skull Candy headphones but I bought a pair recently and was really impressed with the sound from my iPod. They have really got the head phones 'dialed in' to the iPod frequency and the improvement on my previous headphones is roughly 25%.

Probably?
Given that nobody got me a decent ipod or mp3 player of some sort for Christmas, I went to Dick Smith and got the cheapest, shittiest mp3 I could find, for under 20 bucks. I asked them if it was their cheapest, shittiest one, and they said yes. And walking around, listening to music, I have enjoyed it. Surround sound.
The bitchy commentaries on Suede's Lost in TV DVD are definitely easier to listen to with headphones on.

Headphones most definitely. I have three favourite pairs. One are my big ass dj headphones, the next are my ipod earbuds that actually fit my ears, and i also own a warm toque with built-in headphones!! It's amazing!
