No Doubt doubts new album will be ready for 2009 No Doubt doubts new album will be ready for 2009

It looks as if
last month’s online conversation between the members of No Doubt might have promised too much, at least for 2009. While the Gwen Stefani led outfit is still planning to reunite for the first time in nearly five years come spring of next year, according to drummer Adrian Young’s recent comments to
MTV, it might take a little longer for a new album to come about.
“We’ve been working on a new record off and on now for a bit of time, and we’re going to continue to work on a new record next year,” he said. “We’re going to start touring in the spring
of ‘09 through the summer, and we’re going to continue to work on music while we’re traveling. [We'll have] a mobile studio on the bus and eventually get to a new No Doubt record.”
No Doubt originally had planned to release the follow up to 2001’s
Rock Steady sometime in 2009 to complement the band’s planned reunion. However, while the album may be a no go for now, the band does plan to carry on with said tour. As of now, only one date is confirmed - a headlining appearance at
The Bamboozle in May - but as Young alluded to, additional dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
As to what to expect from the forthcoming album?
“It seems like we’ve always come from an eclectic background musically…But we seem to always gravitate towards reggae. I can’t say that’s what our record is going to be like, ’cause it’s too early to tell, but what makes us feel really good is reggae music. I can play reggae music to my grave.”
Am I the only one imagining Gwen debuting a brand new, reggae influenced selection amidst a headlining performance at one of the many - hot - music festivals this summer?
