lucinda williams

i was listening to live at the fillmore last night and thinking about that's sort of how glammy could have been if she'd have laid off the crack. and it made me sad. lucinda williams is fucking ace.

When Car Wheels came out one of the reviews called her the Courtney Love of Alt Country. It was a long time ago and as I recall, I think it was mainly the voice they were talking about.

i think it's a little more than that. it is the voice, and the attitude. but also if you look at live at the fillmore, that's kind of what america's sweetheart was driving at but falling short of at points.

I think Courtney should cover Changed The Locks.

Lucinda Williams is my absolute favorite right now. I got into her a few months ago at historygravity's suggestion and because one of her songs was in the movie Transamerica.

I actually don't like the Fillmore CD, her voice sounds awful. Her Live From Austin TX live DVD is a much better performance, and better songs since it's from the Car Wheels era.

There's something about her last two records that I have a hard time getting into them. I love the s/t record and Car Wheels, I think Sweet Old World and Happy Woman Blues are good too. But Essence and World Without Tears I just haven't been able to get into. I'm having an easier time with Essence though.
