Nouvelle Vague, the French collective who specialise in bossa nova-tinged covers of punk and new wave songs, have promised to air songs from their forthcoming third studio album when they tour the UK in December. Keep clicking for the 30 albums you need to hear before the end of 2008.

Grace Jones' upcoming tenth studio album is to be released on October 27, entitled 'Hurricane'. Ivor Guest has produced the disco diva's latest offering, along with the Jamaican vocalist herself. Nick Hooker has already directed the first video too and the album is said to feature appearances from Sly and Robbie, Tricky and Brian Eno, to name a few.

Paul Weller releases a second self-produced album in a matter of months on November 3 with 'Paul Weller At The BBC'. The four-disc box set will feature 74 live and session tracks, recorded between 1990 and 2008 including songs from his June album, '22 Dreams'. It will also feature a 64-page booklet with sleeve notes, new interviews and rare photos.

Mercury prize-winning act Antony and The Johnsons' latest offering will hit UK shelves and desktops on January 21 2009. The New Yorkers' third studio album, 'The Crying Light', was produced by Antony Hegarty himself who said the album is "a little more experimental structurally. I'm hoping to weave things together so it will be a little more of a collage of songs".

'Skeletal Lamping' is the title of the ninth studio album by Georgia-based Of Montreal. Mainman Kevin Barnes said: "This record is my attempt to bring all of my puzzling, contradicting, disturbing, humorous...fantasies, ruminations and observations to the surface, so that I can better dissect and understand their reason for being in my head." It's set to be released on October 21.

Chairlift, fresh from supporting MGMT this summer, release their first full-length album, 'Does You Inspire You?' on October 28. Produced by Britt Meyers, the debut took a year to write. The Brooklyn trio's profile recently received a boost when their song 'Bruises' was chosen to soundtrack an Apple iPod advert.

'Folie A Deux - French for "the shared madness of two" - will be Fall Out Boy'sfifth studio album release. Produced by Neal Arvon the disc will be released on US Election Day, November 4. Collaborators are said to include Kanye West and Panic At The Disco.

‘I Started Out With Nothin And I Still Got Most Of It Left’ is the third album by bluesman Seasick Steve, set to be released on September 29. One of the album collaborators was Nick Cave. "I didn’t know who he was!" confesses Steve. "I don’t follow music so good but now I think they [Cave's 'other band' Grinderman] rock more than almost anybody."

Mercury Rev release their seventh studio album, ‘Snowflake Midnight’, on September 29. They’ll also be releasing a companion album in the form of a free download called ‘Strange Attractor’. A statement from the band said: "Zooming in at any part of 'Snowflake Midnight' and 'Strange Attractor', at nearly any conceivable magnification, always reveals the forces of symmetry and chaos at play".

The self-produced second album from Scottish psychedelic rockers The Aliens will be released September 29. Both the album ‘Luna’ and new single ‘Magic Man’ will be released on the band’s own record label, Pet Rock Records. Drummer Robin Jones explained: "We started the album in Fife but then we went to the Congo. We came back and had another session so various African influences crept in."

Four years on from their last, self-titled album, The Cure will release ‘4:13 Dream’ on October 27 – produced by vocalist Robert Smith and Keith Uddin. 33 songs were recorded for what was initially meant to be a double album. Smith explained: "The album will mostly comprise the upbeat songs we recorded, while the darker songs may be released on another album."

Bloc Party’s latest offering, 'Intimacy', has been out on digital release since August 21 but will get its physical release on October 27. The album was produced by Jacknife Lee - the second Bloc Party album that has fallen into the Grammy award-winning remixer’s hands - as well as Paul Epworth. NME gave the album 7/10 back in August.

Over 40 years since his debut album reached 13 in the UK Albums chart, Bob Dylan releases volume 8 of his Bootleg album series, ‘Tell Tale Signs: Rare and Unreleased 1989-2006’ on October 6. 'Dreamin' Of You', an out-take from the 'Time Out of Mind' album sessions in 1997, was offered for free download on Bob Dylan's site and sent to radio stations as a promotional single earlier in the year.

Kaiser Chiefs’ forthcoming album ‘Off With Their Heads’ will be released on October 20. The Leeds rockers announced to NME in August that Mark Ronson had taken the production helm on the band’s third studio album, which features guest spots from Lily Allen and rapper Sway. The album was due to be released on October 13 but packaging problems have pushed it back a week.

Snow Patrol will release ‘A Hundred Million Suns’, the follow-up to the massive-selling 'Eyes Open', on October 27. The album was recorded in Berlin and Ireland in the summer with producer Jacknife Lee. Frontman Gary Lightbody said: "Musically, lyrically and sonically this is the best record we've made."

AC/DC release their 15th studio album Black Ice on October 20, eight years since the release of Stiff Upper Lip. Brian Johnson announced in 2004 that he was in charge of lyrics for the first time since 1988 on the forthcoming Brendan O'Brien-produced album and described Angus Young's riffs as the "hardest he's ever written".

Arctic Monkeys’ drummer Matt Helders has put together a collection of tracks and remixes for an album called 'Late Night Tales', due to be released on October 13. The sticksman has even recorded a cover of Living Joy's 'Dreamer', with M.I.A., for the 18-track disc. The album is part of a series of 'Late Night Tales' which have been seen Groove Armada and The Flaming Lips produce similar works in recent years.

Keane release their third studio album, 'Perfect Symmetry', on October 13. Frontman Tom Chaplin told NME: "We made a pact with [producer] Stuart Price to ignore the rules of good taste; we were hypnotised by Marlene Dietrich and spent many a long night throwing ideas around in the crumbling 'Cabaret'-esque glamour of our favourite bar." The album showcases a new look and sound for the piano-rockers.

Liverpool singer-songwriter, Eugene McGuinness is set to release his self-titled debut album on October 13. The first single from the album will be ‘Moscow State Circus’ released October 27. McGuinness previously released an eight-song mini-album 'The Early Learnings Of...' in 2007.

‘The Chemisty of Common Life’ will be the second full-length album from Canadian hardcore band ****ed Up. The band describes it as "an expansive epic about the mysteries of birth, death, and the origins of life (and re-living)". It’s named after a book by James F. W. Johnston, which describes the hallucinogenic properties of mushrooms and plants. It’s due for release on October 7.

Los Campesinos! release their second studio album, 'We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed' on October 27, only 33 weeks after their debut 'Hold On Now, Youngster...' reached 72 on the album charts. John Goodmanson produced the Cardiff-based seven-piece's latest offering, and the release will coincide with their 2008 tour supporting No Age and Times New Viking.

‘Seaside Rock’, the fourth studio album from Peter Bjorn and John, gets a vinyl and digital-only release on September 23. Its sound, as described by the band, was inspired by "the memory of the sound of the Swedish music school orchestras from hell." The album also features voices and dialects from each of the member’s three hometowns in Scandanavia.

The debut album from pop-punkers You Me At Six will be called 'Take Off Your Colours' and will be released on October 6. The Surrey-five piece release the disc fresh from a 21-day sell-out tour and performing at Reading and Leeds in the summer. The band, who have been compared to Fall Out Boy, claim their debut is like "a big party on a CD".

Razorlight’s third album, entitled 'Slipway Fires', will be released on November 3. The follow-up to the band's 2006 Number One album 'Razorlight' will be preceded by piano-led track, ‘Wire To Wire’ on September 26 (digital) and October 27 (physical). Frontman Johnny Borrell loves the new single so much, he’s apparently planning to get one of the lyrics as a tattoo

Oasis' seventh studio album ‘Dig Out Your Soul’ has been produced by Dave Sardy and will be released on October 6. Noel recently told NME: "For the next record I really fancy doing a record where we just completely throw the kitchen sink at it." NME gave away an exclusive songbook on September 16 which contained sheet music and lyrics for three of the album tracks.

The View’s new album, as yet untitled, will be released "very early next year". It was due out late 2008 yet bassist Kieren Webster told NME.COM the delay has been caused because "it's just so good, it took ages to make." The first single from the album, '5 Rebbeccas', is out on October 27.

Arctic Monkeys release a live DVD, 'Arctic Monkeys At The Apollo', on November 3. It commemorates the Monkeys' final performance of 2007 at the Manchester Apollo. The film will also be screening at selected UK and International cinemas prior to the DVD release on October 14, 2008.

‘Day & Age’ is the forthcoming third studio album from The Killers. The title was confirmed in an NME video interview at Reading and Leeds Festival with frontman Brandon Flowers. It's due for release in the UK on November 25 and was produced by Stuart Price – who also worked on Keane's upcoming album.

Until very recently a new album from Courtney Love had been slated for an October 2008 release. The former Hole vocalist has been working with songwriter Linda Perry and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan for the last three years. However, those sessions have now been scrapped, and Love is now said to be teaming up with Micko Larkin, the former guitarist in Larrikin Love, who joined her live band last year, with an album expected soon.

Indie veterans Belle & Sebastian are currently on a temporary hiatus with no immediate plans to record a new studio album. However, on November 17 2008 they will release a 'BBC Sessions album', which will feature songs from the period of 1996-2001 (including the last recordings featuring Isobel Campbell before she left the band).
