The Acorn made the Long List for the Polaris
Music Prize! This is the third year of the $20,000 Prize which is awarded to
the best full-length Canadian album, judged solely on artistic merit,
without regard to genre or record sales. This marks the first year Polaris
has made the Long List public. The Long List consists of the top 40
full-length Canadian records released from June 1, 2007 to May 31, 2008,
according to an initial vote by the 185 members of the Polaris Music Prize
jury. The jury consists of music journalists, broadcasters and bloggers from
across Canada.
The Polaris Jury will vote on the Long List titles to determine the 10 album
Polaris Music Prize Short List. The Short List will be revealed July 7 at
the Drake Hotel in Toronto.
RARITIES COLLECTION
Studio albums are nice and all, but there's something to be said for the,
dare I say, "magic" of live recordings. Or what about the oft-repeated, but
never duplicated spontaneous recording of nascent song ideas. With this in
mind, Paper Bag will be releasing a collection of hard-to-find live
recordings spanning their last Canadian and US tours; to boot, the band will
be including a few demos from the Glory Hope Mountain sessions, as well as a
cover or two for good measure.
FESTIVAL SEASON
You'll be able to catch The Acorn live this summer at many of Canada's sweatiest music festivals including:
July 6th - Ottawa Blues Fest
July 11th - 13th - Winnipeg Folk Festival
July 25th - 27th - Hillside Music Festival (Guelph, ON)
August 1st - SappyFest (Sackville, NB)
August 2nd - Quebec Folk Festival
August 9th & 10th - Wolfe Island Festival (Kingston, ON)
EUROPEAN RELEASE & TOUR
The Acorn will be making their way across the pond for their first UK tour
from September 5th - 14th in support of the Glory Hope Mountain, which will
be released in Europe, Australia and Japan by England's Bella Union label
(home to Fleet Foxes, Beach House, Midlake, Dirty Three, more). Official
dates will be released in the coming weeks.
CANADIAN FALL TOUR with OHBIJOU & TOUR-ONLY SPLIT 7"
The Acorn will be trekking across Canada once again this fall, but will be joined by long-time friends and collaborators Ohbijou...and well, they could
not be more excited! To celebrate the tour, the bands will be releasing a good ol' split 7" (along with mp3 download) featuring one new track and a cover of each others tunes. Official tour dates will be announced soon.
WESTERN US FALL TOUR
Following their cross-Canada tour, The Acorn will dip south and make their way down the western sea board playing in Seattle, Portland, Bend, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boulder, Denver, and Chicago to name a few. Once
again, dates are on the way!
